I was staying for an hour in Ul'dah, waiting for the NPC to spawn and yes, I asked myself: "What am I doing here?" - I could not find a good answer for that.

So I logged out and started another game, which I actually could play! I could jump right into the content and had fun for the rest of the day.

Maybe SE intention is not to drive people away from their game - but it happens. Too many lockouts, too many restrictions, too much content wich is not accessible for the casual crowd.

Don't make me laugh, lockouts exist solely because the casual playerbase bitches and moans that people who have more time to play have more shiny things than they do.

Imagine if they removed the weekly tome cap, yeah some people be fully geared in a day, but guess what that's their choice, yet you'll have casual players like yourself who cry about it, claiming that the sky is falling and queue times will be upwards of 3 hours because nobody runs the content anymore. You are the reason lockouts exist.

That's a bit of an aggressive response. I would say that at least the Rising's npc spawn lockout is not friendly for casuals or noncasuals.

    > I < am the reason lockouts exist? Sorry, but I am NOT a casual player. I don't raid, so some people will call me a casual, but i have thousands over thousands of hours logged in this game and play 8 hours upwards each day since the game relaunched in 2013 (with some little breaks of course). I am also a tank main, so I don't care about queue times.

However, I prefer timesink grinds over tomestone lockouts. For the first I am actually playing the game, for the second I am just waiting until tuesday reset.

I even like Erueka, but I agree that it has lots of problems. But the grind is none of them.

However. Locking people out of content leads to only one conclusion for me: They don't want us to play that content / the game. The problem in the design of the game is that there are not much alternatives. The tomestone gear is better than everything else, except savage raid gear. That means when you are not interested in raiding, you have nothing else to do than waiting for tuesday. Wich is also true for raiders, since savage has a lockout as well.

Tomegear should be a safety net, when you have bad luck and want to fill missing pieces wich didn't dropped, not the best gear you can achieve. But yeah, casual players will hate it. Even when nothing changed about the tomegear and just alternatives were added to the tome- and raidgear. I hoped the relic armour could fill that spot, but SE has dropped the ball here.

    Wait a moment...

I really AM the reason why lockouts exist, because I am the person who grinds out the stuff at day one ^^

I mean I understand why lockouts exist and they are not bad per se - they are a good way to get your guaranteed loot when you have bad luck or not much time, you will make progress regardless. But there should be more than the safety net.

Please don't attack other people for SE's decisions. It's not the vast majority of the playerbase who wants stuff to be handled this way.

SE is just warping and manipulating the content we asked for/want in the game and they're doing everything they can to make it as bad as they can. Blame the game, not the player, they are as much a victim as you.

Dungeons in ff14 are almost dead. The gear is rubbish. The tomes aren't necessary at the moment and other sources give far more. There's no other good loot or replay value. The relic has been moved away from dungeons entirely.

I can't remember the last time I ran a dungeon tbh. There's no reason to. Which is a shame, they can be fun and look amazing and are definitely more engaging than hit 2000 training dummies in a big field.
I feel the same. And I'm an Omni-crafter. Granted, I took a break from it this patch, but the fact I still have far more Creation than I know what to do with says a lot. If you aren't into crafting, Creation either is given to friends or sits at 2k. Say what you will about WoW's RNG system, however at least you're constantly working towards a goal and not waiting on a Tuesday reset.

Um.... why would they be deliberately making the content bad?

Maybe their vision is way out of alignment with what players actually want, but surely they are not actually choosing to make the game awful.

You only have to do it once, though. I think a timer npc should have been added for convenience, but it seems to spawn often enough to not be an issue. The big problem simply was they didn't tell us it despawns, and that it didn't start spawning when the event went live. Someone slipped up there, you should always let that kind of information be known.

But if you only have maybe two days time to do the event thanks to personal/business stuff, then you might be unlucky and miss this part of the event, which never happened before. And whats with the people that might only be able to play 2 hours a day. What if they just always miss it because its not in the slot they can play?

For devs that should know how many play this casually this is just bad.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
