I've been playing this gave for a few months now and have been working really hard to earn my mentor crown feeling like I'd be able to help the community and maybe help run the fc my friend owns better, but seeing how other people who were supposedly past mentors are treating op is really disheartening.
I'm starting to see why mentors have the bad rep that they do.

I'm sorry to hear how you were treated OP. :/

    I'm 50% agree with this.

    Pro:
When you get the mentor status, you accept the term that you'll help new players if they need help. Otherwise, please don't try to educate them when they don't ask.

    Con:
There are several reasons why mentors can't tell you what to do:
    1. Not all DoM and DoW mentors took all jobs. There might be some jobs they don't understand yet.
    2. Language barrier. It's great when you play on a server with majorly people who talk with your mastered language, but in my case I'm in a JP server. There are times where I can't switch tabs to google translate and understand what to do.
    3. The same applies with DoH and DoL mentors. They're not google and wikia, they might not know everything.

I've been a mentor for over 2 years and you are just being a cry baby about the whole thing.

For one, mentors are not bound by a legal document forcing them to help you or explain the fight, ontop of that they don't deserve to be taddled on for not carrying you.

This game is all about impressions, if I get the impression that someone is being snotty or just bad in general I will go out of my way to not help them.

If a newbie is kind and pleasant I have no problem helping them but demanding that I help you just because I'm a mentor is like being a screaming child / brat, we are not your parents.

    Simple.

There will always be people who not only appreciate your kindness, they will pay it forward as well In otherwords try not to get too disheartened by how others (who wear the mentor crown) behave in-game, and try to focus on all the positive experiences that you've had with others, people will always be grateful towards others like yourself who take their time to teach others.

Ex trials should not be in mentor roulette because a lot of ppl dont know about the difficulty. And one bad apple spoils the bunch.

On that note if you want full blind runs go on partyfinder and say what it is. So players that did watch a guide and mentors who want to help ... have a chance.
I usually make text macros so I don't have to constantly type out explanations all the time. (hi mog ex!)
The difficult part was usually getting people to actually wait long enough for the new players to read it. ...but this was only when I was farming a specific ex trial. I think it's kind of odd that they put extremes in the mentor roulette.

I can but only disagree with this.
I don't remember exactly what it says, but when you turn on the mentor crown, there is a dialog box that says something along those lines : "Be nice and helpful or we could eventually strip you from your title"
And I think that the fact that you could lose the mentor title was actually mentionned.

Mentors are humans and have flaws ?
Well if they can't control their temper while tutoring sprouts, then they have nothing to do with that crown over their head.
And yes, screw the mount too, they don't deserve it.

Also, nice to assume OP wants to get his "hand hold" through harder content when he clearly said he watched a guide and started getting a hang of the mechanics...

    ^This right here.

I like how some of the people here just complain about mentors being bad and not helping players. We didn't sign contracts with SE to be mentors or something, and we don't have to help you at all. And unless SE decides to punish mentors for not helping players or w/e (which won't happen) then you're just holding your breath if you think we MUST help you. Most of us will help you if you need some help, some of us aren't gonna hold your hand (SE does that in this game), and some of us will either help you or won't give a damn about you. I think I stated this before, but not all mentors joined the mentor club to be "teachers" to players.

Some join because you: A.) Get access to Novice Network (basically at a extra chat room) B.) The Shiny Gold Crown (with choice of sword, hammer or pvp symbol) next to your name. And C.) Access to Mentor Roulette (meaning extra tomestones and money).

You take no oath when you become a mentor. As a mentor myself, if players need help or explaination of boss mechanics or w/e I'll be happy to help. If players are being jerks or a*sholes and they expect help from me, guess what? They ain't getting it. I'm not obliged to help you with ANYTHING, nor do I feel obliged to give you advice. I'm not a youtube video. I don't know everything and I'm not gonna hold your hand. I'm just a player like everyone else.

You guys who put Mentors on a higher standard just cause of the crown act like we have to hold your hand through the game. Shall we wipe your as*es while we're at it? Huh?

In the end, we are players just like you. The crown makes us no different and no better than any other player. You don't need to wear a crown to give advice to people. So in short, to those who put mentors on a higher standard because of the crown, I have this small bit of advice for you: Get over yourselves.

A mentor should do what they've supposed to do, help people.if you're a mentor not doing something as simple as that, you deserve the report. Im working towards my mentorship right now so i CAN help new people

Report away bro. But here's some advice.

Mentors aren't you're in game Wikipedia dude. We aren't obliged to be at your beck and call. If we can help we will, if we can't we won't, if you curse us out for not helping you then we REALLY aren't gonna help you. We are also players who pay our sub fee and want to play the game the way we want, so keep that in mind before you issue that report...but 9/10 SE will ignore it.

Reporting a mentor for not giving you advice makes you look petty. And what do you think SE is gonna do with the report huh? Easy. They will throw it in the virtual trash, like most reports. Reporting mentors who won't help is like asking the classroom nerd to let you peek at their answers on a test. You think the nerd will let you cheat? No.

In the end it makes you look petty and vindictive cause you couldn't get your way.

Had a sprout tank get mad at me once cause I gave him some advice about his stances. He charges into Stone Vigil with Sword Oath on and wonders why we kept taking aggro from him. I told him, he needs to use Shield Oath if he's gonna tank and he tells me to f**k off.

At that point, I was like okay. He learned his lesson soon enough as he kept on ignoring advice and kept dying. The healer was fed up and stop healing him and he rage quitted.

I gave the sprout advice, he told me f**k off and he acted like a brat and rage quit. Guys like him, can very easily just report the mentor (me) and make up a false story about what happened and play the victim card. 9/10 the GMs will ignore it. They know reporting mentors for not holding players' hands isn't report worthy nor ban worthy. Just saiyan.

I originally got it to help others.

Then people kept harassing me anyways for daring to mention anything they did wrong, even if I was nice about it.

One case, had a sam in sirensong in full 120, minutes a 255 weapon. Of course they died to everything. Though the party was praising them rather then bring up the issue.
