I have this everyday after drug store visit. No need to wait till something like this is implented into online game. Many MMORPGS and other offline games allow characters to drink or ingest substances that alter their character's perception of the world around them. Will FFXIV ever allow us to buy a pint at the pub and experience similar effects? Is this something players want, or are you fine with it never being incorporated?
I know this is not a pressing issue and the devs have many things to do before they even consider it, but it is one of the many things that other games incorporate which increases verisimilitude.
Personally, I think intoxicated fisticuffs (once PVP is implemented) would be amusing with inverted controls and blurred vision.
What are your thoughts on the matter, fellow forum dwellers?
There's a difference between imbibing a potion bottle that gives you various stat bonuses and penalties and labeling the bottle "Wine," and creating a system that turns you into a swaggering Drunken Master with the need to occasionally zip down your pants and vacate your bladder (such as in Age of Conan). The more level of detail you add, the more you glorify it, the more likely you'll earn a mature rating. This guy is absolutely right. Most popular MMO of all time, upon release, has had drinkable things that got you drunk. i.e. alcohol... and the more you drank, the less control you had and more your screen blurred. it was great fun!!
So whoever is saying that the ratings would go up.. I think WoW is teen? sooo any game should be able to have drinkable liquor and stay teen if WoW can do it.
NO MORE EXCUSES!!
And frankly, this isn't a game that needs mature content of this nature. When did public drunkenness ever fit into the theme of Final Fantasy?

Pirates in Limsa Lominsa, Turks in VII, the pubs in Tactics...alcohol references in FFVI that were nixed by NoA...Jecht in FFX...there's numerous alcohol references throughout the series, and as I listed before, nearly every other MMO includes some form of intoxication. You may not want "mature content of this nature," but that doesn't mean others don't.There's a difference between imbibing a potion bottle that gives you various stat bonuses and penalties and labeling the bottle "Wine," and creating a system that turns you into a swaggering Drunken Master with the need to occasionally zip down your pants and vacate your bladder (such as in Age of Conan). I always wonder why people want this in other games, it's like, you use it once and it lost it's fun aspect after that.
Risking a higher rating over it is just not worth it.
Alcohol references are fine though, pirates without alcohol is just..wrong.
But making it available to the player is a whole different thing.
ffxi had drunk people in a bar in bastok port. also this game has hookers and strippers dont it?
Again, many MMOs with alcohol use are rated T, even the ones that are more violent and sexual than FFXIV. It's a cop-out excuse.

Clearly you don't understand the difference between referring to alcohol in subject matter and creating a system where you character actually uses alcohol to create a "desirable" effect in the game (especially one where you're not confined to where you get drunk).Pirates in Limsa Lominsa, Turks in VII, the pubs in Tactics...alcohol references in FFVI that were nixed by NoA...Jecht in FFX...there's numerous alcohol references throughout the series, and as I listed before, nearly every other MMO includes some form of intoxication. You're assuming the effects would be desirable, as someone else said, give the player gravity status and reduce their accuracy to show that alcohol impairs functionality. You really don't have an argument here, but I'll keep debating if you'd like.
And you asked when did public drunkenness have anything to do with FF? PUBlic. PUBS. NPCs drink in pubs. I illustrated a few points where non-player characters drink in public throughout FF's history. I am full aware of the difference between a reference and a system of being intoxicated (like most other MMOs have). When did it fit with the theme of FF? Let's see, FFIV, FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, FFX, FFXI, FFXII, FFXIV...

Hahah!
I remember doing a thread involving alcohol, and that was about doing some sort of Oktoberfest in Eorzea. In this thread you can find my idea as a brewfest or whatever you could call it. Because actually you virtually go and drink in the adventurers' guilds too =)
