Ratings boards look at that very differently. It's one thing to have a non playable character talk about alcohol or drugs, but another to allow a player to actively drink or ingest it. They look very strictly on a game making imbibing drugs seem "fun".I'm not buying the ratings argument. It already says "alcohol reference" on the back of the box, and most of the other MMOs that include alcohol are rated the same as FFXIV, T for Teen (in NA, at least, I know other countries have different age rating systems). I'm not saying the devs didn't give that as the reason, but it's a weak excuse IMHO.
Point taken, but still, EQ, EQ2, LoTRO, Guild Wars etc all say "Use of Alcohol" and they are rated T. This game also doesn't have blood or suggestive themes to the extent some of those other games do, giving S-E more leeway before that T ticks over to a M.

Bastion ESRB rating: E10+
Next argument please.
If you're feeling low, count on the buttery flavor of our own Bastion Bourbon.
I want screen effects like:
Blind: Your screen seems darker than usual.
Stunned: Your screen seems freeze.
Paralized: You cant move your camera.
Sleep: Your screen moves slightly like doze.
Poisoned: your screens turn a little green or purple.
etc
I really like these ideas! Though I think it might be annoying for some to be unable to move camera, etc. for some fights...
I think I'd be happy to see some of the classic effects : black bubbling smoke over eyes for blind, yellow tiny sparks surrounding your body for paralyze, character tinted green or purple for poison as well as poison bubbles emanating from your body, etc.
this would be great for the pvp, kinda like a shooter twist. visual effects to our moves could be fun.
As long as drunk players have a +80% gravity effect, have their accuracy reduced to that of an XI Dark Knight and aren't allowed to ride chocobos, sure, put it in.
It may harm the ESRB rating to simulate intoxication. "Use of Alcohol" could push the game towards an "M" rating, and that really isn't worth it.

This guy is absolutely right. Most popular MMO of all time, upon release, has had drinkable things that got you drunk. i.e. alcohol... and the more you drank, the less control you had and more your screen blurred. it was great fun!!I'm not buying the ratings argument.
So whoever is saying that the ratings would go up.. I think WoW is teen? sooo any game should be able to have drinkable liquor and stay teen if WoW can do it.
NO MORE EXCUSES!!
