If your eyes hurt from reading text on a screen, I think you should consider at least reading glasses because obviously that problem is going to persist outside of XIV then, it's not just the game's fault. I get eye strain all of the time because I'm not only working on the computer a lot for majority of my time, but I'm also staring at a TV screen for gaming and a laptop at the same time. I have non-prescription reading glasses that I bought from Wal-Mart that I use when I need my eyes to focus harder, it helps a lot.
It may take you wearing them for a few days to adjust, but your eyes will over time. If you start getting headaches from wearing your eyeglasses right away, it means you need to gradually get your eyes used to them and wear them in intervals, but not lengthy periods. I even use my reading glasses when I play mobile games on my phone because of the small text and screen brightness. Reading is a facet of life, you can't ignore it and it's better to broaden your vocabulary outside of your comfort zone, than be lazy honestly.
As someone else said above me, Blizzard is a financially larger and more stable company. Can people please stop throwing around the term "Indie company" when they're using it wrongly? Blizzard has been in the MMO business longer than SE and quite frankly, are better at micromanaging their resources and finances.
Blizzard actually puts money made from WoW back into WoW. SE makes money from XIV and funnels it into KH3 or the FF7 Remake.

To be honest, i dont know if you are false or right, both a really large companies. BLizzard focus on some games (Diablo, SC, Warcraft, Overwatch, Hearthstone and Heroes of the storm). Even if now it is "Activision-blizzard" it get in many ways 2 different entities that walk together. But we should speak about this big entity, and with activision there is much more games.
BUT SE is not small (clearly not indie as you said). Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Hitman, Tomb Raider, Nier (and previously drakengard) and so much more. Like Activision, SE gets a lot of title they publish (not create). That gives even more money.
What i want to say, we get a size for SE or Activision-blizzard (or capcom, ubisoft and so much others) where the bigger is not the matter. they get more than enough. FFXIV give them really many money. enough to get some stability about this game... but will come back to it later...

So SE is older in MMO business. (And FFXI is not close yet, without being as big as WoW, it continue to live, getting money to the company today. )
This is the main matters. The feel (we dont have proof) that most money we give to FFXIV (subscription + cash shop + retainer subscription + soon app subscription + soon app mogcoins) dont go to FFXIV but FFXV, KH3, FFVII, and any other thing they need money for.
Or the feeling is due to reality... Or due to the fact the team is paid too much for the work they are doing. The matter is not that SE is smaller than blizzard. The matter is how they use their money... simply
TO answer about the voices in WoW, it began at Vanilla (everyone can remember Whitemane resurecting her "hero" or ragnaros saying his famous sentence!) It was not a lot, and we didnt have in game cinematic.
Burning crusade added more voices, and WOTLK (2nd expansion) gave the cutscenes.
The game began with 3 langages (English, German, French). Fast Spanish came. And today, Russian, Chinese, Italian, Portugese, and others, dont have the list in mind. I also dont know if all get voices. (nearly sure to those i did just list). I also dont remember when came which language. but at release, only 3.

Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: [...]these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

How many voiced cutscenes does WoW have and in how many languages? This is a legitimate question as I haven't played much of WoW for one specific reason: no controller support. I cannot play a game with mouse and keyboard as that just kills my hands.

WoW comes in like 10 different languages and I believe they have fully voiced everything for every supported language.
I couldn't tell you how many voiced cutscenes they have though. They weren't terribly common, mostly being saved for big moments in raids, but in Legion they began to voice pretty much everything and that will continue in the new expansion.

I sometimes wonder about the quality of those other languages. When I was playing I never really noticed a problem in English, although some of the voices they used were absolutely hilarious or annoying (YOUR PATHETIC MAGIC BETRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYS YOU!!)
My husband, on the other hand, absolutely hates their Portuguese translation and refuses to play it in anything but English. He says that "The Portuguese they use isn't technically 'wrong' but it's the kind of language that no one actually uses in normal speech." That, and their habit of translating proper nouns like the names of the cities or the characters' surnames, which is a huge no-no as far as most translations go. He also said that most of the translated names of the spells just come out "weird." He speaks the language natively while I don't, so I just take his word for it.

Pretty much every major event going on or major story line going on has voice acting in it. Not every quest line has a really detailed cut scene Like when you take down Arthas and the scene between Him and the ghost of his father is like a mini movie but there are many times in the game where the main characters are speaking during the game play itself. I find it fun to think I'm a character in these movies in progress being talked to directly By Malfurion or some other Main character. Its just fun and really pulls you in as part of the story going on.
I Know i sound all TEAM BLIZZ here and yeah in many ways I miss it But I Love FF14 too. The world they made, the Detail in the programming, SO MUCH SO that you cast a shadow down on the ground as you fly. ITS AMAZING! I marvel all the time at the tiny details they put int the game. Which is why its so frustrating to me that they went so all out on the visuals but then when it came to the audio they decided, Meh. You know what I mean?
And for people who say that theres more story to tell IN FF14 than Wow, that's not the case. They just manage to tell the story with less words because, SERIOUSLY, Who talks that much and in round about convoluted paragraphs. Its insane. When the worlds on the brink or some bug bad is knocking at the door, why waist time. Say what needs to be said say it clear say it direct and LETS KILL THE BAD GUY! LMAO.

Square Enix is not as big a company as you seem to believe. They are fairly small when compared to Activision Blizzard. Not only that, you may not realize this, but they nearly went bankrupt a few years ago - the remake of FFXIV is the key game that saved them from dissolution.
To put some things into perspective, lets compare the companies somewhat (details taken from their 2017 annual report, and all amounts are in US$):
Blizzards 2017 revenue: $7,017 million
Square Enix's 2017 revenue: $2,289 million
Blizzards assets: $18,668 million
Square Enix's assets: $2,176 million
Blizzards "Cash on Hand" 2017: $4,775 million
Square Enix's "Cash on Hand" 2017: $1,170 million
Note: "Cash on Hand" refers to straight cash or assets that can be easily & quickly sold for cash as/if needed.
Note #2 - Yes, just over half of Square Enix's total assets is considered as 'Cash of Hand' compared to only 25.58% for Blizzard.
When you compare them, while SE might be a well known name... it's not really fair to them to compare them to Blizzard and expect them to have the same financial clout & ability. They are a lot smaller in size than Blizzard, and do not have the ability to throw as much money at everything they are doing - unlike Blizzard which has the assets, revenue and 'Cash on Hand' to do so.
