The Companion App sucks

• It lacks have half of the Libra Eorzea features. Can't search for non-marketboard items, duties, profiles from people I don't know.
• Only players with active subscription can use it.
• Lackluster information on the profile page of a character.
• Can't chat with players using the in-game channels (FC chat, Linkshells, etc).
• It takes a lot of time to send a message, the screen dims and the page has to load again.
• There is a very tight character limit for each message.
• Sometimes you can send duplicate messages.
• Since it doesn't use the in-game chat, there is no reason to only show text. We can't add images or http links.
• It seems making an event doesn't shows in The Lodestone page.
• Speaking of which, zero Lodestone integration (blogs, FC forums, notifications)
• No web/desktop version.

I am very disappointed. There is no single added value into improving communication with friends and FC/LS members that other software (like Discord) can do. Why using this app when I can make a Discord server?

More seriously, the fact that we can't even chat with the in game channel just suck. I don't see the point of using this instead of Discord, which is also free and much more stable/user friendly.

I am not even considering that. All these things are for the free features of the app, which supposedly are aim to improve communication among FFXIV friends. Yet they're very limited considering the actual standards. If this app would allow the afk player to chat with others using the in-game chat system, it would be totally awesome

It's not that it SUCKS exactly. You can tell someone probably worked hard to integrate stuff from in-game into a cell phone app, and all the security features that had to entail.

The problem is the app is completely USELESS.

The slow chunkiness of the entire process of listing a single item, or buying a single item on the AH from the app make it not worth using.

The chat feature doesn't just give you your FC and LS channels you already have in game for you to listen in on or chat with. You just get to create forum post type chats with other people from those groups in-app...weeeeeee? I was expecting to be able to see my Hunt LS posts in realtime and if an S rank message popped up, maybe I would see if I could log in to catch it, etc. This isn't going to be used for anything useful in its current state.

I think a better use would be just give us several mini games on an app, linked to our main account that give us perks in-game. Like simple mini games for minimal amounts of MGP, or earn special app only glamors/minions/mounts.

While I do agree with a lot of points made here, IIRC you can use the app up to 30 days after ending your subscription. I know this isn't much or makes that fact any better but just a correction.

The scheduling feature is great for raiding. You can get all of your peeps on there and it KUPO them to remind them not to be late!

Unless they can't download it because their smartphone isn't new enough. Oh.

I tried it but I didn't got a push notification when the event started. Also as I said, those events doesn't show on the Lodestone, which seems weird to me.

Meanwhile, you can use Discord with a reminder bot or a free service like Guilded to manage your FC and static events.

Did some of us not say beforehand after the idea was released in a Live Letter when people were doom and glooming that it was going to ruin the Marketboard and XIV was going pay-to-win/free-to-play features, that it was going to probably be absolute garbage and useless out of the starting gate and not worth the $5?

A lot of us called that this app would be completely not worth the money and not as game breaking as others have said.

OP is living substantial proof and evidence as such that it's badly implemented. Thank you OP for testing the waters.

It also could've been the other way around and don't start with SE programs suck because otherwhise you wouldn't play here. Either way i'm not a fan of these apps since people spend enough time staring at their stupid phone already.

It could have, but it wasn't. There's no point in going through the numerous "what if" scenarios that can nor never happened to begin with, so I don't get what your point was or where you were trying to go with that entirely here. Plenty of people on the forums weren't impressed when it was first mentioned and still aren't even now, while countless others were...well, to be blunt, acting like the app was going to be the end of the world or end of the game. It hasn't caused the game to implode on itself, but it's definitely not anything special to write home about either.

Probably not a good idea to jump the gun and think that I would say SE programs suck simply because I called their phone app tool a useless piece of fluff when you don't agree with it either anyways. I like their games, their games are not always the problem....the problem is that they're really bad at micromanaging their resources and budgeting. But, that's a higher-up CEO & accounting department problem and not always a developer/director problem.

The phone app's mini fees for kupo nuts was probably alllllllll on the CEO's idea and less on the person who coded the interface.
