XI's WoTG used Atomos as a plot point to explain why things were possible and what's happening if some are going to speculate the "we're just living in an Echo" type route, since Atomos is a temporal summon and we are said to have some. affinity for communing with a primal. Since they're having Primals as a plot point in this game, someone summoning Atomos could drastically (Atomos/X-zoning has always been a part of FF when it comes to to stuff like this, not just XI, it's just XI is the most recent incarnation of that.)

So it doesn't actually complicate anything and it does actually flow with how Yoshida wants summons in 2.0 to actually change the environment in a way when they're present.

Well I'm just going off what information we have. There's also the unexplained geological anomaly mentioned in the outline, we'll see what happens with that. As far as the Primals are concerned if I'm not mistaken all we really know is that they're slowly killing the planet so we need to get rid of them. Though I don't know how closely that's tied in with the rest of the 7th Umbral Era storyline.

The short version is that the Empire is searching for crystallized Aether to use to summon their own Primal. This search has brought them to Silvertear Falls in Mor Dhona. As mentioned by Cid, whatever is happening with Dalamund is affecting the flow of the Aether. Most notably in the Silvertear Falls area.

The Circle of Knowing is aware that Primals draw on the Aether to manifest themselves in our realm. As a result the Aether is being drained, which explains the unaspected crystals.

Cid has alluded that there is a lot more to he situation, much of which the Empire already is aware. Which is why he has come to Eorzea, to try and bring the nations up to speed in an attempt to prevent the catastrophe.
