It's already been established that we can interact with the past when using the Echo.
Besides, if 1.x events being an Echo experience is a cop out then most of Final Fantasy X must seem like a cluster-f to you.

Actually I love FFX. However if we're currently using Echo to explore our current world, how do we then use Echo within an Echo to view events even further in the past? The story for FFX made sense, the above suggestion just wouldn't do it for me.

The Garlean empire nukes everything so we have to start anew amongst a post-apocalyptic wasteland that magically grows back in a week because it's final fantasy and then all the garleans die because they are gay the end. B)

I will pee on the world and cause a great flood and everything will change
This is what'll happen.
1. Garlean Empire invents a nuke.
2. The empire nukes Black Shroud.
3. Gridania retaliates a la Avatar but fails miserably.
4. Evil moogle lord from the future arrives in the form of the M-1000.
5. The M-1000 attacks Ul'dah and Limsa under the assumption they're allies with the Empire.
6. A formerly-evil now-reprogrammed moogle lord from the future arrives in the form of the M-100.
7. The M-100 accidentally wakes up an army of Garlean Xenomorphs and becomes a host.
8. The new M-100 Xenomorph hybrid starts attacking everything.
9. A Hyur male named Neo shows up in Ul'dah with his buddies Morpheus (Roegalkyn) and Trinity (a Miqo'te) telling him how the 'chosen one' must defeat the enemy in the upcoming apocalypse.
10. ???
11. Profit.

I still say they should follow XI's WoTG storyline and tie in Atomos to explain it all.

But they don't have to. I mean this isn't XI, why bring XI's story into it? It just complicates things needlessly.
-Garleans have something to do with Dalamud's descent
-Cid makes something cool and awesome to help us.
-Dalamud (or at least parts of Dalamud) collide with Hydaelyn
-Collision causes change in the environments/terrain of Hydaelyn.
-Map changes are explained and 7th Umbral Era story complete.
That's all I'm expecting based on current information. I don't know why we need to complicate the story so much.
i think your are looking at this all wrong. the fact is this is a story. a story being told by SE/yoshi and his team. they are the writers not you. just because you don't see something working. don't mean it can't or that the writers don't. i don't know lets just say for giggles that the ppl writing the new story have a plan a vision, actually know what their doing. 2 things are going through my head now 1 final fantasy has never disappointed in the story department (not even in that joke they called FF13 IMO) 2 and too your thought on FF10 you say you love the game. so a guy travel 1000 year into the future, as a great adventure, gets over some daddy issues, then finds out he's dreaming/just a dream. but you think echo is a cop - out. as was pointed out to you, there aint much logic in your words. i have found some for you tho. the fact is you think its sounds stupid coz its on paper if SE crafted it into a game it would be great (if only for the story)
not that it matters coz this is not the idea of the story to come, this is ideas from fans. but if SE went with them. (why not one idea is a good as another) it would work

What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.

XI's WoTG used Atomos as a plot point to explain why things were possible and what's happening if some are going to speculate the "we're just living in an Echo" type route, since Atomos is a temporal summon and we are said to have some. affinity for communing with a primal. Since they're having Primals as a plot point in this game, someone summoning Atomos could drastically alter things (Atomos/X-zoning has always been a part of FF when it comes to to stuff like this, not just XI, it's just XI is the most recent incarnation of that.)
So it doesn't actually complicate anything and it does actually flow with how Yoshida wants summons in 2.0 to actually change the environment in a way when they're present.
