    I wish Summons became spells in 5.0

    What I would like to see in 5.0 is a rework for Summoner, where they give up their Egi's all together, and instead get each new primal as a chain of spells they can pick and choose from. Like each Primal offers 3 unique spells but you can only ever set but so many spells period, you don't have to take all the spells that any one primal offers but you can pick and choose or take all three, let's say the job allocates something akin to spell slots and each spell has a certain number of slots it takes up, 1 - 3, and you have to pick which ones you like best to fill the given slots. So imagine you got 1 slot per 2 levels, by 70 you would have 35 slots, and each primal has 3 spells with a slot cost of 1 to 3, you'd have to pick through the primal spells you want to total up to 35 spell slots used. When you cast that spell it cost a certain amount of mp and has a cast time associated with it, and visually you summon a miniature version of that Primal that looks just like a smaller scale version of the original and once it does its spell it disappears. The class would still keep its DoT spells, but it would no longer have pets. This makes it similar to some of the other Summoners from previous game excluding 11.

    I personally like pets. Part of fun is that, you have to place your pet correctly or it will die. And another part is that you can use pet active skills while casting spells or without weaving(outside devotion/enkindle). That is one part that make job feel unique compared other jobs.

    Personally I'd rather see SE take a similar approach to Bahamut and make all Egi cast spells based on what the Summoner was casting, but I understand that would take a lot of work so I'm not expecting that to happen anytime soon.

    I don't think it would take too much effort, depends how extensive you want the revamp to be though.

    You could make the egi's function similarly to demi-bahamut on a basic level easily enough.
    Cast Summon 1, 2 or 3 to have your egi hovering over your shoulder automatically throwing windblades/big rocks/fireballs at whatever target you're attacking.

    Personally, I wouldn't consider pet placement "part of the fun". It's barely necessary. Egis are immune to most environmental effects, and with with Ifrit and Titan they have to be placed at melee range anyway. I hardly think it adds any sort of dynamic pet control.

    As for pet abilities, they definitely fall secondary to your own. It's not so much a "pet" job as a caster that also has a pet. You can weave the abilities into your spells if you want, but outside of Contagion specifically, you can leave them on Sic without suffering any major DPS loss.

    Have you played ultimate? Every phase have frontal cone tank busters that kill the pet. Ultima phase have even one extra mechanic that make your pet die if it is not in the correct place.

    You dont want use your skills randomly all of the time even for ifrit. If you use sic ifrit all the time, it use radiant shield while boss is not target able or for the phase where you dont get much benefit from the it. Thats why you wanna use skills sometimes manually. I agree outside radiant shield and contagion pet skills could be little bit more interesting.

    Sure, there are instances where placement can be incorporated or maybe even necessary, but for 90+% of the game, they can just run on auto-pilot.

    My point is, the job is designed as a mage with a pet just to call it Summoner. You can choose to micromanage the pet for a small performance gain, but it's hardly the primary focus of the job. You lose a lot more DPS by mis-managing your personal abilities rather than your pets' abilities. If it were a genuine pet-oriented job, that ratio would be more in the pets' favor, or at the very least more balanced. They shifted to the Bahamut-style summoning for a reason.

    Well Bahamut work as big cooldown pet only because you can build up your aetherflow, tri-disaster, addle and weave these skills whole Bahamut duration, but if it would be 100% time like that, it would be really boring and lazy desing imo. If they would want shifted from egis, why would they bring us devotion during Stormblood and other utility skills pets currently have?

    I'd be quite curious how this would work for SCH because even on the off chance that the two jobs get completely seperated (which seems unlikely so far), it is still a pet job along with SMN. The fairy can be especially useful for placing in strategic locations to heal certain allies or for better aoe placement, and it's already a quite rewarding job (as is SMN to a degree) so not sure if I'd want anything to be merged in to job actions just to remove the pets.

    I really liked the way they did yuna in the original dissidias where it was an attack that opened little portals in melee range and the summon would pop out and make an attack then the portal would close.
