Egh. If common sense would stop people from buying overpriced digital goods, then anyone with common sense wouldn't buy from the mog station at all, because just about every single thing on there is way overpriced for a digital item.
Pretty sure there will be people who buy the snow cone. And SE is just gonna keep track and adjust price points accordingly in the future to maximize profits. Business as usual.

Well, while I agree that the $5 snow cones is hot garbage and a waste of $5 in my own opinion for people with common sense. I'd argue that the other items is 50/50 debatable because costumes, mounts, etc as extra incentives is kind of expected nowadays. I've bought some costumes beforehand and didn't have a problem about it since it's like a one-time splurge and I really liked the outfit and wanted to use it for my characters. It's not a matter of who has common sense or not to spend $12 on an outfit, it's just a matter of who finds value in that item or not. Now, I'm not justifying the original prices, don't get me wrong. They could be much cheaper or at least parts of bundles, especially the two carbuncle mounts. They should have been together, not separate.Egh. But, a digital snow cone? Man, I'll spend the $5 to get a real snow cone for myself.

That would defeat their purpose for keeping them separate and thus milking them. Carby is a popular creature. Have to maximize that![]()
If you say so.

SE probably feels it's safe to have the cash shop so long as it doesn't contain gachapon/lootboxes. If they ever do that, the game will be committing seppuku. SE has already gone down the path of pre-order DLC insanity for FFXV and the Tomb Raider games. While they certainly can do that, it's basically saying that the game is incomplete or broken at the lower price, and it just encourages piracy since the pirate versions would end up being complete and unhindered by cash shop nonsense. DLC and Cash Shop features in a single player game, especially mobile games, tend to be an exploit hole to take all the difficulty out of the game. "Here's a hard game, now pay 9.99 to have easy mode" s/Egh. At least, in a MMORPG context, stuff like this tends to be obvious when it's P2W, and when it becomes P2W, the bottom third of the players who will never pay for anything will quit rather than spend money on "optional not-optional" cash shop items to keep from being drowned or smothered by the 1%'ers with bottomless pockets.

While your explanation is informative. It doesn't really give it sound reasoning. You're comparing apples to oranges because MMOs are never complete and this game being a "sub based" game means it would hurt itself with a P2W practice.
This is not pay to win but they are clearly double dipping on "already used" assets and charging for them instead of bringing them back in game. They don't have to repeat the whole event like the Lightning events. Every "season related" event or "yearly iteration" can and should be providing access to the old items. Charging for an additional "level boost" or a "unique effect" cuz of the "authentic" prefix is really not worth putting them in mog station.
If you say so.

also it is not fair to newer players who did not get the chance to "stock up" on the limited event item. I know quite a few that stock up tons of these things and puts them on some alt's retainer encase they need them in the future because that is better then needing to pay 5 dollars or w/e for 5 of them or something, like the cherry trees. While your explanation is informative. It's a cultural thing. "limited editions" in japan tend to really be limited. Plus a counter-point there is "they should've been playing it since then" that some can easily use.also it is not fair to newer players who did not get the chance to "stock up" on the limited event item. Being new does not entitle you to collect all the past items you've missed from previous years. It's perfectly fair to not have an item if you weren't playing at that time.also it is not fair to newer players who did not get the chance to "stock up" on the limited event item. WITH THAT SAID
I am a total fan of fluff items, and so get how it goes wanting items you've missed. In my perfect world, they would have followed the way XI did - bring back the old costumes from past years for purchase from NPCs. They still do this (although I don't believe with all limited items, just the "main" costume), and it's nice.
Personally speaking, old event items are the only item I have no issue with being in the cash shop in XIV (aside from account items, world transfer, fantasia, name change). Obviously the cash shop is here to stay, and at least with old event items, they were available via in-game methods at least once.
