To be fair, once you're in combat you're locked to only one stance. Some AST just seem to love not picking up a sect before combat and once they decide to pick a sect, it's a sect already taken by their co-AST or Nocturnal if the co-healer is SCH. IMO, that kind of AST is the one without any sense of teamwork.

I seem to get lots of Rabanastre whenever I run Alliance Roulette. Last run I was in had the main tank that seemed to be in a hurry that they'd pull before even ensuring that everyone was in arena eventhough there was at least one new person to the raid. Yes, yes, we no longer get locked out of the fight but it was simply annoying when someone was impatient like that.

So I decided to run a 50/60 on my alt character (on Sch) since she was more than ready to go on that. "What's the worst that can happen," right? I got Keeper of the Lake.

    *Inhales*

The tank kept solo pulling, even after I asked for them to pull more. They were also all over the place, came the final boss, until I had told them they could stand in the negligible Granite Rain and leave the DPSing of the Astraea adds to the rest of us. The tank also tanks the first boss in the middle of the room, so everything exploded and I had to heal through it all, and spend that much less time helping with the DPS. They also took forever to grab the adds off of me during the second boss.

The DPS was slow, even with my help. Sam and Blm whose gear was totally decent. Trash should have melted, but didn't. Bosses should have gone down, but took a while. We wiped once to Mid because I, alone, couldn't kill the second Astraea in time, or even as the two dps finally got the hint that the add was there and they needed to kill it. The dps also kept standing in shit and dying to things that not even a critlo could have saved them from, so gg on that, but I otherwise kept everyone alive.

After the one wipe, three of us got back to the final boss arena, and I looked at the map to where the Blm was. They were running the whole way it seemed, so I said "Hey, so you know, there's a shortcut at the start that you can take to get to us faster." Cue the Blm running back and forth on a couple levels of the map, and me beginning to wonder if this Blm could tell the difference between their monitor and their buttcheeks.

When we finally made it past Mid, I got no comms for my efforts. Swell.

Another DRK tale – I’ve slowly made my way through enough of HW that I finally unlocked the Alex raids. Figured I’d go ahead and just get them out of the way, since I hate having those blue quest markers and I like the raid roulette. Went into A5N, and I believe at least half of the party were brand new to the fight. Nobody spoke up and went none of the mechanics were done, we all wiped. Immediately, my co-DRK left.
That’s when I started talking with the group and found out that most of the party either didn’t know mechanics or forgot them. Rather than get mad, I took the time to explain the syringe mechanics and what to do. While doing this, a PLD queued in – we ate another wipe due to the bombs being too close, but it was at 8%, rather than wiping at 87% with the previous tank. I did my best to encourage everyone and clarified some more things about mechanics. And you know what?

    We cleared.

Sometimes, all it takes is communication from one or two people. The players that were in that run, I was the sprout DRK. Thank you guys for hanging in there. The five comms I got are nice, but I’m happier that I was able to help you guys get this clear.

BSing with people in Battle on the Big Bridge while a first-timer watched the cutscene. Someone brought up how they want Gilgamesh and Yojimbo to meet up at some point. Another person thought it would make a great fight to duke it out with both of them at the same time.

    I replied "Greg/Jim OTP."

I think I broke a couple of people.

You can't switch sects in combat. My main complaint is that I pick a sect (I prefer Noct), and they stand there without one, the tank pulls, and then they decide to select a sect...in this instance, it was also Noct sect. I don't understand why it's so difficult to at least glance at the party list and see "Oh, the other AST already has Noct up, so I'll do Diurnal" or vise-versa.

This is also particularly annoying when I'm on SCH and the AST also go Noct sect. I've had this happen many times, and they've never apologized for it. It's fairly annoying in 24-mans when I'll explicitly say "Hey, uh, you will need to go Diurnal sect because AST shields won't stack with SCH shields", and they continue in Noct for the entirety of the raid...

You gotta communicate then, not just assume they know. If they have no sect chosen, speak up! Ask what sect they are going to use so the team doesnt have wasted sects (they may be unaware that two of the same sects isnt a good thing) same with SCH, let them know noct sect overrwrites sch shields and if they would be a sport and switch to diurnal. As you pointed out about your SCH/AST team, that guy was just being a tosser.

Communication is key, here. At least that shows if its someone who genuinely doesnt know or if they are someone who belongs on the blacklist.

Communication only works if the other person listens.

But it will always fail if never attempted.

And will always fail if they never listen. There's a reason I also hate being paired with other ASTs.

Couple months back I had a Sigma 2.0 normal where I'm in Noct and the other AST only bothers choosing a sect after the boss gets pulled. Their choice? Noct.

Communication doesn't work if the other person doesn't listen. The many times I've responded in the past, I've been met with "Well I don't like the other sect!" or nothing but silence. I'll never forget the O7N I had where the other AST refused to use Diurnal sect, once again, choosing a sect after we'd already pulled Guardian, and then complaining at me the entire time for how they should have Noct because they don't like Diurnal. Again, you cannot switch sects in combat, so effectively telling them to switch in the middle of a trial or 8-man does literally nothing, since, if they were going to switch, they can't. Unless the group wipes.

And blacklists don't prevent random matching, so adding them to my blacklist effectively does nothing. It would be petty anyways. I don't blacklist save for actual harassment/toxicity.
