How bout’ NO. A caster needed to be competitive this expansion otherwise we’d have the HW fiasco all over again(like we somewhat have now). If anything, they need to figure out how to get out of this “buff meta” we’re stuck in.
Just to add on to this. The top groups are still running SCH+AST, PLD+WAR, NIN+DRG+MCH+BRD. The only thing that's changed since HW is swapping DRK for PLD.
Occasionally there's a SMN instead, but it's still mostly the above.
So, yeah, "nerfing SMN into the dirt"... well have fun with that.
Well it's either that or blm needs a flat 5% damage boost. There's zero excuse for a utility job that can raise while having the mobility of a bard should ever compete with a blm on damage. That's just silly from a ballance perspective.
If you look at the top 25 groups for God Kefka speedkills, you will still find RDM and BLM represented. Even a 5% boost would probably catapult BLM to the very top by a wide margin.
Really, caster balance is not so far off.
But here are some jobs you will not find in that sample set:
WHM
DRK
MNK
SAM
We'll, whm and drk have a role that they fill very well. Mnk/sam could use a little work, but their issue is that drg/nin is too obscenely potent. If you look at the top 25 groups for God Kefka speedkills, you will still find RDM and BLM represented. That will definitely solve the problem /s
People will just take RDM for progression and MCH for farm. BLM and SAM will stay as memes despite being perfectly viable.
It is normal that a "support" job has more pDPS + rDPS than a selfish DPS job like BLM. What's the point of coordinating people to line up their shit if a SAM or BLM can just bypass that to deal as much damage. If people can't use their buffs properly, selfish DPS jobs are better.

Until you throw a raise in its kit. Raise shouldn't be free, but I'm smn's case it is.That will definitely solve the problem /s

The Raise costs around 120 potency.
Joke aside, people arguing about classes not being balanced because they need a 5% damage buff is kinda good. Shows how well balanced the game is. Played other games where some classes are simply unviable for endgame content.
Is it even possible to have every team comp equally competitive with each other ? Because having perfect balance at speedkill levels must not come at the price of heavy imbalance at other levels of play or other content.
From a personal PoV, I play mostly DRK as tank though I could bring "more" to the party with WAR (AoE shield, a bit more damage). Even if they bring DRK's DPS up to match WAR's, it wouldn't change a damn thing for me. I would still press buttons in the same order. The same way, you can drop SMN's DPS or buff BLM's by 300, I don't think it would change anything. Circejerks would still pick MCH because "muh meta comp" and leave BLM/SAM aside because of "lol no utility".
The moment the static or group does not take in a Sam is pretty clear that they are selfish and you really don't want to be in that group or static
Now as a Sam you got to do your part to be the highest as you can be to proof that you are worth taking and not just a sub average samurai that they can find else where
