I remember all the rumors of another FF MMO before FFXI hit its peak. Hell, those talks were going around before it was released for the PS2. What happened instead was the game's release onto console format, and then it took off even more. How history loves to repeat itself, eh?

No way another FF MMO is coming out until the next gen consoles have a confirmed release date. You can be certain of that.

My personal opinion is that the mobile market has a lifecycle that goes with the device replacement schedule. You get 2 years out of the hardware, and 2 years out of the software. This is largely because the developer has to keep supporting old devices, and Android devices are super-expensive to keep supporting as there's many rubbish ones. All the money to be made in mobile is on the iOS platform. Korea gets more life out of their mobile devices largely because Samsung and LG are their native manufacturers, so it would be a bit off-putting if they don't support their home market developers. Apple is entirely "do it our way, or you're dropped from the store", with developers deciding to drop microtransaction games from the store early that aren't profitable enough.

I really hate how microtransactions have utterly ruined games for that platform and have creeped into desktop/console games. Sure a developer is free to do whatever they want to make it worth developing the game in the first place, but some developers seem intent on a repeat of the games crash of 1983 by pushing out as much crappy, time-wasting-if-you-don't-pay-through-the-nose, games as possible.
Agreed. Obviously SE wants to chase the whale dollars now by focusing so much on mobile, but the problem is SE is too big and too bureaucratic to operate at the speed required for the mobile market. Plus it's not what they are known for, they're throwing away decades of brand recognition as a big ticket AAA RPG maker. And good luck SE on doing the downsizing necessary to be efficient for mobile development (Japan doesn't really have a strong union culture but for a company of SE's size to lay off a significant number of people, their rep would be irreparably damaged in Japan due to cultural expectations).

Oh wow, we're long overdue for another crash! I don't think it will have that much impact now, companies either restrict the consoles/phones and/or the regions. Plus if a region ever get saturated, I really really hope they bring out the region exclusive games to other parts of the world. 80s was the best decade where good games actually competing for quality/innovation despite the saturation. Good competition = Good innovation.

Honestly, anything can be a improvement over FFXIV these days. If a FFXVII MMO does get created, I hope it WON'T have Yoshi-P and his lazy team running the show, have a better story plot (and not some anime-ish story with neverending feeling like Pokemon, Naruto or Bleach) that doesn't keep the story going but instead does what FFXI did and create new stories for each expansion, have better gear longevity (aka FFXI style since we or rather I know FFXIV's gear progression is sh*t and throwawayable with each major patch with a ilvl increase), beginning of the game housing (like FFXI, and not wait 3 YEARS into the game to add apartments) with no limited BS housing, open world activity, exploration and events (like FFXI and not like FFXIV's FATE BS) and more importantly, a BETTER endgame.

The endgame of XIV is nothing but complete repetitve staleness and the content is shallow as hell with no real feeling of a achievement. FFXIV will never have the feeling of achievement nor as great endgame feeling as FFXI (at least for me). At this point, I'd gladly play a new FF MMO and put XIV to rest for something new and better.

If they do another FF MMO (which will be years from now, YEARS)...Ivalice or bust man. We already have the various races set up and their lore thanks to FFXII, FFTA, and FFTA2. Let's go the distance and go all out with exploring the rest of the world.

It could be set after Tactics A2, which happens after XII and Revenant's Wing but far before the original Tactics.
The players could be wandering hunters/adventurers, who can form their own clans like in Advance and A2 that will work like FCs + Grand Companies.
They could have the original 5 races from Advance starting out (Hume, Banga, Moogle, Viera, and Nu Mou) and add other races with the expansions (like Aegyl, Gria, Seeq, etc).
Jobs could function like in XII: Zodiac Age, where you have a Main Job and a secondary Job, each with a license board shaped like a picture, that you unlock skills, spells, traits, and gear with as you level.
I agree with this 100%, just look at the race threads, all those races have been mention by numerous people. I also think they are in fact making another mmo we just need some one hawk-eyeing the game patents like they did when rapture was announced. I’m sure they are trying to get into mobile but ultimately they will fail HARD. I also agree with Usho they need new people in there giving a shit about the game and the quality of it even if they are assigned to make it’s flower pot that looks really nice

Doubt they would make an MMO on mobile. As it may take away from the mobile games like ffbe.

I do think they are working on a new MMO slated for 2021 or 2022

To be fair this is pretty much what the last expansion did, Heavensward's story is pretty inconsequential and self-contained when you look at the big picture, and some would say it's better off for it.
