The ranged can pull just as high, much easier, since their burst isn't based on building resources or using timers as much. Most ranged just have time gated attacks, they don't need to build via auto attacks or weaponskills, and the most potent ranged generally don't need to use prereq attacks. Melee can get destroyed by traps, since only silence is self-cleansable, and some jobs like SMN literally can use all their abiltiies when pacified. There is a pretty big gap even ease of use and potency, and ive been noticing in runs a lot of people go ranged as dps.
