A shout out to the 1.0 players still here today

I was there from the start till the end of 1.0's life. Only regret I have is I didn't record it, but at least I took some random screenshots for memories.

I feel the same way. I really should've taken more screenshots and video. I only really got to level 30 (just to get a Goobbue. XD), but I really had a lot of fun. One of the things I miss is probably the most boring: actually taking the ferry places, instead of using ferry skippers. Elevators too.

When I saw what players experienced on that epic day when the 1.x servers would go offline for good, I broke down in tears. All of the LSs huddled below Dalamud, the great Gobbue wall, Ul'dah running rampant with mobs, that violent clash with the Garleans, I really wish I could have been part of that. As empathetic as I am, I am sure there is still a lot that I would have to be there in order to fully understand. I would have dealt with all of that mess to have those precious memories.

As days went by, the red moon started to grow...

We watched as the Garleans soared through the Eorzean skies of our dearest towns and cities. Gridania...


Ul'dah...


And Limsa Lominsa.


As the weather ran rampant, the Atmos appeared in our camps. Devouring the aether surrounding the crystals.




As the Garleans threat loomed on the horizon, we could only pray for salvation and support one another.



But, our spirit didn't falter!



...and thus with faith in The Twelve we soldiered on fought with every fiber of our being. Alas, our efforts were in vain when Dalamud revealed its true identity. On the eve of our demise, a blinding bright light surrounded us and we found our selves in a different place where the scars of time were plain to see. Somehow we survived... But, at what cost?

Anyone remember the great Goubbue wall and when the city states were invaded? It was such an amazing event to have been part of 1.0 right through to the end. Still loving the Legacy Account Status! Although, reading the description of our Legacy Chocobo, I want to know when "a story for another time" will come! Kinda wish they would give some small nodd to us 1.0ers that are still hanging around.

These are amazing! That descending moon is so scary. Could you imagine seeing that from our own sky? Those of you still with us likely possess a strong empathy trait, and could feel that panic as your virtual world was on a similar path of obliteration. I know I would. And this is not something that another game or this game can repeat and have the same effect. This was a magic that could only be cast once. I am envious to tears. /hugsss

As for 1.0, I admit I didn't start til a few months after 1.0's launch (due to a combination of billing issues that took time to sort out with my bank and a family tragedy that naturally took an extended period to work through), and due to technical issues with my computer, I didn't play as much as I could have, however I did keep my account active even after fees were eventually turned on, ensuring that I attained Legacy Campaign eligibility, and thus made sure I was there the day that bloated scarlet rock finally came down... or at least I was there until I was booted half an hour from the end and couldn't log back in.

Not to be daunted, when Yoshi temporarily reinstated the 1.0 servers after 'the Calamity' (reset back to a month before Dalamud's fall) I decided to at least finish the 1.0 story (or at least, what I could do solo, in other words the original story not the 7th Umbral Era story) even though it wouldn't transfer, just so I could at least experience it. And I'm glad I did. I manage to get to level 50 solo in a little over a month by the last day of service on December 31st 2012 (even being distracted during that time by the ARR Alpha), when I finally put Enki to sleep in the Inn Room moments before Yoshi shut the game down forever, it seemed appropriate, as shown (note the 'goodbye and see you soon' notice from SE):



1.0 was a mess, that thoroughly deserved it's destruction and replacement with ARR which is a superior game, no doubt. But, it was a diamond in the rough that still had a few brief sparkles among it's many, many flaws and imperfections (flaws that despite valiant tinkering by master craftsman Naoki Yoshida most could not be fixed); I still miss certain things about 1.0 that I would love to have here in ARR (Path Companions for one). And I am still grateful I got to experience it when I did, even if there was much I could have still done.

So am I proud of my Mark of the Twelve and the Legacy Chocobo and my name with the 'Meteor Survivors' in the end credits, despite 1.0's problems, it was an experience that was literally, once in a lifetime, that FFXIV ultimately became stronger for.

I can say that, I was there since the countdown to logging in for the start of service to the end when "Connection Lost" popped up after service ended and enjoyed every moment!
I still have quite a few of my 1.0 gears and items, and my legacy title i always have set (from 1.0 little ladies day) which i get asked about all the time and usually ends up with players finding out about 1.0 for the first time.
Lots of things i miss, the animation was mind blowing, graphics and detail where extreme, and the fact you couldn't jump...



In the credits under *K* you can see my name "Kitty Of Quetzalcoatl" which is my Final Fantasy XI character and world (still active).

That's the best way I can express myself. Tears and a smile that are both happy and sad. I appreciate it so much that you took the time to dig up some old pics for me! They truly are a neat thing to have, and I honestly can't think of a better achievement even if others can list them by the dozen.

I am sorry to hear about some of the issues you encountered when starting out. But you made it through, and you are here now. I do hope you continue to play and support Final Fantasy. The best way I can atone for missing out is by doing the same.
