A part of the issue you seem to be trivializing is built upon the much larger mistake of SE not divorcing this game from 1.0's code. It isn't a discussion to get into here and derail this thread but your logic of "they can have it, we should have it too!" isn't insulated against all of the other factors that separate FFXIV from those other games. I haven't played WoW but from what I've seen of it's graphics... eh, let's just say I see why it's easier for them to have more variety amongst their playable races.
That's the other issue here - what you're asking for won't be half-assed. They aren't going to "modify a hyur base" they're going to modify a hyur base, create a gender distinction (since at this point Lupin gender can't be determined without dialog), modify virtually every head item in the game and a fair amount of chest pieces to accomidate the thicker Lupin neck/shoulder area and do all the other work that would come with creating a new race.
Logistics aside I don't see the demand for this and I doubt SE does either. The JP playerbase doesn't seem to particularly care for it which is a nail in the coffin then and there but even on the english forums this is the longest thread about Lupin and it's largely filled with people saying they don't care if Lupin are included or are outright opposed to it. I think there is more support for Viera in this thread than Lupin. At some point the smart business decision will become clear to SE, it likely already was though.
This is a niche thing guys. You don't have to look much further than the state of tanks and healers to understand SE prioritizes the majority. We didn't see new classes in SB, we may not in 5.0 and that's because the time investment didn't appear worth it in relation to the players that would enjoy the content. I think those asking for more bestial races are in a similar boat.
