Some dyes are also NPC specific i.e. only one vendor sells a particular dye, so sometimes research is required on where to exactly find the dye you're after. So I wouldn't go as far to say as buying dyes of the MB is bad practice. It definitely is if you buy an overpriced stack of a common dye when the vendor who sells it for cheap is literally right next to you.
All good and fine.....but the dyes you find on the MB...are NPC/Manufactured with jacked up prices.
