[Request] Can we have more race-specific hairstyles?

I disagree with having race-locked hairstyles. We don't need anymore locks. I do agree with race-specific hairstyles. I think having racially-significant hairstyles available to all races would be great. However, I would like the race that the hair originates from should have something special added to it. It could be a specific ribbon I don't know but yeah that. Basically a special added part to it while the other races get the normal version.

I'm not really a fan of race or gender locked customisation in general, but if it means Elezen and Au Ra will get more hairstyles that don't emphasise how small their heads are then I'm all for it. Lately it feels like the majority of hairstyles are made only with Miqo'te or Hyur in mind.

Miqo'te ears just really do not go well with a lot of the newer hairstyles. It feels like they made them for hyur and just slapped the ears on as an after thought. So I'd like some hairstyles that take them into consideration. They don't have to be race locked or anything, I don't care about that. I just want a nice hairstyle where the ears don't look out of place.

Miqo'te are kind of a unique problem since all other races have their ears (or horns) in the “correct” human place: You could put an Lala exclusive hair on an elezen/roe/au ra/hyur and it’d look fine. You could put Elezen exclusive hair on a roe/au ra/hyur/lala and it’d look fine. Were it not for the stupid extra horns on Au Ra hair their exclusive hair would look fine on elezen/roe/hyur/lala.


I'd say no because I already want the devs to unlock some of the gender locked hair (whhyyyyyyy are dreads locked), if one race gets something "nicer" you know we'll all be hearing requests to unlock it on the forums/conventions/Q&As. Imo it's better to give X to everyone and let them pick and choose what they want to wear.

Just freaking make things (gear, hair, etc) tailored to each race separately. I know why they don't (lol time & money & effort) but I'm just so tired of the excuses. You already have to tailor items to body sizes and shapes - a top on a roe male is going to look different than on a miq male, for example - so just take the extra little bit of time and adjust for tail/ears/horns/scales/whatever. Please use the "meatballs" as an example of what never to do again.

Again, I get that they're not going to. I even get why. But that doesn't mean it doesn't tick me off that they won't. Especially when they already seem to enjoy making different pieces of clothing look vastly different on the separate genders. (Although to be fair on that point, it's not like changing the colour on a pair of underwear is that difficult /eyeroll)

^ This is what I'm talking about. Whereas a lot of the older race unlocked hairstyles do take them into consideration.

You don't need to lock things for them to be tailor-made. Like I said, allow all races to have say, the Au Ra hime hair but give Au Ra a special piece added to their hime cut to signify the racial originality.

I'm really tired of the unexplainable locks. It doesn't help anyone. Why are male characters still unable to have dreadlocks? Why are Elezen females the only race in the entire game that can have a plain fade? What keeps a hyur lady from shaving her head and having a fade? What keeps a Hyur from having a hime cut?(Nothing obviously because Yotsuyu).

In fact, characters like Yotsuyu are exactly why locks are stupid and unexplained. They do nothing but hinder choice.

Race specific styles only work when the races differ in design enough that it would be impossible to copy the style on another. All the playable races in FFXIV are essentially human humanoid with the same hair so race locking hairstyles doesn't make sense. It's too easy to copy someone else's hairstyle when your hair is basically the same as theirs.

The closest you could get in FFXIV would be something like the Au Ra having an extended growth of scales on their head so hair can't even grow where the scales are but that's not a hair style, that's a head style.

My point was that it is very likely that they modeled the hair on a hyur and scale it to everyone since almost all races have ears where hyur ears are. Its a “one size fits most” thing.
