Square lied to us about the amount of MGP

If you read it properly, they are saying that over the course of the event you can earn anywhere between 30k to 180k. if the event goes for three weeks that 10k a week at the lowest score.

Now it does. Before, it said "Typically, you can earn 10,000 MGP just for participating, and 50,000 MGP if you can score higher than 80 points! However, during the campaign, you'll be able to earn 30,000 MGP for participating and 150,000 MGP for scores over 80! Whoa!" The use of 'typically' and 'however' made it impossible to see it as anything other than an increase in payout.
