A couple of thoughts that I hope people can respect.

I think billing systems should be as simple as possible. This system isn't simple, and the character and retainer charges are both unwanted and unneeded.

Secondly, I'm happy that Square compromised, however it remains to be seen if there is $8 worth of content in FFXIV per month.

For the great majority of people, the game wasn't worth it when it was free.

The point being, that's entirely subjective and everyone here already has different standards than the public. For many people, there will be $8 worth of content in this game. And for many others, there won't be.

If this is a sarcastic reference to what will be the equivalent of WoW's cross-server dungeon finder, it still doesn't allow you to choose the people you play with on other servers.

It already sounds different from dungeon finder, much more all-encompassing for one because the server structure is made to handle such system from the get-go.

Now, that's not to say in the end it won't be just like dungeon finder. But the fact is that SE has a system in the pipes that will potentially allow you to play with your friends on other servers even on the same character. That's a better option than being lazy and just doing the half-assed option other MMO's do and force us to create new characters for it.

True, I'll give you that, Betel. It would be nice if SE had a grander vision of how to utilize this tool, expand and improve upon it.

If you truly had cross-server freedom, that would be something quite innovative, indeed.

I understand your point and we can do nothing but wait and see, but just because these features are not in the game does not mean it couldn't handle them. It's just not worth it to develop them for the current structure at this point.

We know that they need to go beyond our expectations to prove their competency this time.

The abomination that was PlayOnline let you have friends on different servers. It would be a nice feature in the friends list to be able to not only see friends on different servers but also queue up a dungeon finder with them. I'm 100% for this.
