Padjal also aren't a race. They're just Midlander Hyurs that the Elementals in the Twelveswood basically bless which makes them grow horns as kids/teenagers.

You do remember correctly. They don't seem to die natural deaths after that point either. I forget which one, but one of them, either the one connected with Odin, or the conjurer's guild master, is over 200. One of the others is 80 something. And I think one in the lore was something along the lines of 5-600, but that may just be my terrible memory having a laugh at my expense. I haven't looked at the Encyclopedia in quite a while.
I agree 100% and it's probably the one thing that bothers me the most about FFXIV. When I try to introduce friends to FFXIV and FF in general, I clarify to them that FFXIV is but a washed out, shallow version of other FF games in terms of cultural and racial diversity because I just don't think FFXIV is that appealing racial/cultural wise. I would honestly like to see more creative races as a whole, like Yuke, Lilty (in lieu of lala), Ronso, Garif (unf, yes), bangaa, et cetera... But I think the more creative races would likely be lumped in with beast clans in FFXIV's lore. I'd also like to see clan culture actually come into play (they did wonderfully with the au ra, I think, but the rest don't seem to have that, or at least not to that extent.).

People don't seem to understand the bases of this thread.
GO BIG or GO HOME
Or how about
FRAN RACE or NONE AT ALL
Maybe
AMAZONIAN RABBITS and NO CUTE CRAPPY RABBITS
I read every...every single post and THIS is the base, the piller.
And what I really want to say is basically what a selective few have said in which i support.
Two Clans, Viera and the Foal. That's it. We can have our Amazonians. We can have our Lesser "need milk" rabbits, it matters naught to me who I get I'm fine with either. But I'll be drinking a pint of my own creation if I have to see a half *** generic looking bunny. PS Au Ras are soooo freaking lame. As a character creator myself I find it so absolutely infuriating that they made the FEMALE (the male looks fine to me) look like a boring tiny freaking KUUDERE! Where is HER EMOTIONS!?!? SO BORING look at their face! Souless. I need a character that can express themselves not a downgraded Lizard folk looking like they just came from The Elder Scrolls: Nords preset. Please you call that a good design, the only "good" from it is the default cloathing
Sorry about that, dunno where that female Au'Ra rant came from

And can we PLEASE STOP comparing races to Hyurs
Not everything is about Hyurs
What are you people Hyur-Sexual or something. Every race is unique. Even Au'ras
And quite frankly we can make do without Hyurs, cause at least every race has something Hyurs don't have. Distinguish features. Hyur is than your average Jo
Invited to a party filled with recognizable characters with personality. Then you just got that one person, that Hyur in the corner. Oh wait no they're the person you stand next to to make you look better cause they're just that trash.

i can understand the female au ra complaint i find them very lacking compared to the male counter part
the idea of one race being small and Cute and other being taller and strong would be the best not like want they did with Au ra females are small and dainty males are massive and bulky

I doubt they will ever make two clans that are different in appearance (like Highlanders and Midlanders). In a way, that's kinda making two races and it's probably why they didn't do that for Au Ra (even though it would have made sense due to how different the two clans are. One being for battle and the other being nomads or something).
Unique is relative. Its perfectly possible to make a race that has a completely different feel and aesthetic from the other available races without making it a beastman race outright (beastman as in animal-like).
Secondly, theres a huge grey area between just a 'human with animal ears' and 'beastman', maybe instead of making snarky comments at each other we should try to find a compromise between the two, something thats 'different' enough to not just be human with animal bits, but also human enough to not cause an issue in the games storyline. And yes, Viera can be that, they are already less human than some of the other races we have.
And @ Trixie_Strider, I get that it can get frustrating to read the same negative nancy comment all the time, but making a series of post that read a bit like a kid throwing a tantrum because the meanies disagree with you isn't helping either.
Just my 2 cents.
To be fair, when they made the Au Ra it was also their first time making a new race from scratch. I'd like to believe they've learned since then.I doubt they will ever make two clans that are different in appearance (like Highlanders and Midlanders). I'm not going to delude myself into thinking they'll pull a giant rabbit out of the hat, but at the very least, the sub races should be more than mere color swaps of each other, because as they are now, subraces add more retrictions than they add variety.
