You're taking things too seriously. To explain (though I shouldn't have to), whether it's Hildy or something else is irrelevant. As mentioned above, I find the comedic relief Hildy offered to be, well, relieving as the tragedy in MSQ can get overwhelming. I'm more sorry that he doesn't get the same relief that I do because laughing is a good thing but he may have found relief in something else, who knows? Humour is subjective as countless people have already mentioned. Let's leave it at that.

Honestly I wish they'd shelve Hildy for awhile. At this point it just feels like the writers are bringing him around out of a shared sense of obligation and the writing has long since gone stale because of it. Time away would allow them to refresh their passion for the character and not just go through the motions over and over again like they've been doing of late.

I agree with you. Hildi provided a nice change of pace and as a breather from the story for me. Finally a storyline with humor and not just tragedy and drama..but maybe its time to bring a new story line in it with other characters and with their humor. (You could still have Hildi as a guest character)

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Those two quests lines were some of my absolute favorites in this game (as far as side quests go.) Especially the Scholasticate!!! I had SOOOOOO much fun learning even more about Ishgard and their systems. The mystery behind it all was fun to play along with. And we had Briardien again!!! Just overall a much more enjoyable time then HW Hildy was.
Holy hell, when I found out how much of a slog these Scholasticate quests are, I very nearly abandoned them then and there. Every long cutscene, I'm just sat wondering when this is going to be over.

Don't get me wrong, I respect and appreciate what it does for lore establishment and all. But, they're basically the same thing as what everyone complains about with the 2.x MSQ. Go and talk, go and talk, go and talk. And I'm even one of the few that didn't mind the MSQ. But I think this maybe takes it a bit far. At least with the Moogles, it was spread out over multiple NPCs.

And Briardien is a twat, and probably what I least enjoyed about ARR Hildibrand.

Well... what you (and others) may call a "slog", I call entertainment! I know a few on here will agree with me, but I'm one of those who enjoy every little insignificant detail that all the stories that encompass this game has to offer.

It's why I play FFXIV and why I played FFXI. These two are my favorite MMO's out there because in a sea of majorly endgame or PvP oriented MMOs out on the marketed these two are some of the very few that truly focus on such heavy story elements and I love it! Truly a Final Fantasy MMO.

So since 2.XX-4.3 I've had nothing but love and fun with each and every story (minus a few misses mostly Hildibrand 3.XX+).

Briardien was a joy for me in the Scholasticate quest line. Sure... he was a bit of a "realist" in the 2.XX Hildy series, but that was his role. He was supposed to be a counterpoint and foil to Hildibrand's grand and 4th wall breaking/insane physics defying personality and humor. But I felt he was much more grounded and even a bit down to earth in the Scholasticate quests.

But it still just boils down to we all enjoy different things and I'm glad XIV can provide many an avenue that way.

Hate this guy, annoying, useless and not funny at all... the only thing that make me smile during the whole quests are : The almighty Godbert and his wife, the rest can disappear forever leaving no trace behind them I'll more likely won't care at all... Yeah no I lie to myself, I will be happy like for real, will be the best patch of my life, please kill this guy or better let me kill him, twice for good.

It wasn't the duties so much as Trial Roulette.

Back then you had to complete every trial to do Trial Roulette, every trial took less than 5 minutes, and the roulette gave a decent bonus. None of those things are true anymore, so it wouldn't cause a stink to put a fight into the Hildy quest.

Gods, I loved these two. Godbert was easily my favourite. I love the family dynamics/chemistry. I first met Godbert (before I even heard of the Hildy quests) in - I think - the Christmas event of 2014 when he was playing Eorzea's equivalent of Santa, and I think that was my favourite Christmas event to date. It wasn't that great, but Godbert made it better. xD

i consider hildy to be my MSQ. i believe that 2.x stuff was the pinnacle, 3.x was mediocre bordering on bland, and so far 4.x is starting to show a little glimmer of what it was in 2.x..... although everything has been far too short lately.
