Quoting Splice from vent because he's too damn lazy to write it himself:

Yeah, okay, it sucks if there's an NM that only pops once a week and it's over-camped with bots and barely anyone ever claims it without a bot. BUT, there should be a variety of content, not just one, singular style.

There should be instanced dungeons/NMs, as well as open-world. There should be NMs/content that are only available once a week or according to ridiculous spawn demands, as well as ones that are available every few hours (such as Uraeus).

Point being, if you only appeal to one group's playstyle then you're going to lose the support of the other group's. I feel like the people who favor open-world and the people who favor instanced are very close in numbers, so it's probably in SE's best interests to make a nice, diverse field of content so that EVERYONE can be happy.

So for the love of god and the sanity of my friends and me, PLEASE stop making threads in the trend of 'NO MORE OPEN-WORLD/HARDCORE/ETC CONTENT QQ'. Because at the end of the day, we should have both; and these threads usually end up devolving into trolling/stupid arguments, anyways.

Why can't there be both? There is absolutely nothing wrong with either one and it would cater to both types of wants/play cravings. I've played in many virtual world games and seen a few that use this type of system and they work fine, for instance EQ2. You have open world dungeons and raids and then you have some that are not and they have a great balance going.

I'm a PVE person. I like my challenges to come from the "E" and not the "P." So I love my instances. I want to fight Ifrit, not other linkshells for the opportunity to fight him. I am definitely anti-Competition.

I like the open world too. Hamlet defense and leve quests are nice ideas for the open world. I would also like to see a popped NM system along the lines of Abyssea.

I would like to see all dungeons/raids instanced in this game, or at least instance the NMs inside them. The promyvion zones from FFXI are a good example of this. A zone you have to work through to get to an instanced area. (Off topic, but the Tactics Pearl quest was a great example of a solo quest, btw.)

agreed, i think the open world parts are important so you get the feeling of an mmo at all. No empty places everywhere until you form an alliance to raid. in the end one can just play GW 1 or 2, if its all gonna be instanced... and no monthly fees as well. So i prefer a good mix.

Why not have all zones instanced, zone out of town and boom your in your own world! Want to bring a friend into you boring desolate and empty world? Send invite, boom! now you both can play together all alone, forever alone. There is a reason SE shouldn't go over board with instance content...we are playing a MMO, the game already feels empty enough in its open world areas for the most part anyway, lets not make it anymore "personal"...

In case you didn't get the sarcasm from the above, I'm all for open-world, I love the competition it livens up the game world imo, it may even cause people to work together, you never know, but that is the fun of it. I usually always team up with people if I run into them doing the same content. And hell we all know people could be a little more open to other players in the game, lol...

Instance content doesn't promote community at all a world is suppose to be lively and filled with all kind of events, that don't require you having to be block off from the rest the world. I can safely say given the chance most people would do instance content with ether there guild or friends and shun everyone else. So if you want a world where no one talks in the open and everyone is a mute since there talking in linkshell chat or party chat all the time then do go right ahead ^^, as for me I have enough of that with other mmos >.>

Anyways I'm all in favor for mixing the two, in fact I think that's the best way to get it down, you know if that's okay with all of you.....?

I don't see why XI's HNM system is what people think of when they think of open-world content? That was one fairly specific thing.

That aside, rather than claiming why not change it to be something like:

-World boss spawns, weather changes or notifications made in cities etc.
-People start fighting boss, as more come boss gets stronger, gains new abilities and generally becomes more powerful.
-Boss is defeated! Everyone who participates for a certain time etc gains experience/company points/currency that can be spent on new items. Similarly to Odin coming out soon, the more bosses consecutively beaten would result in even more challenging encounters and more points rewarded.

Obviously being judged on participation is something that can be abused a bit, but it's definitely workable. Especially if you have to stay in range and the boss uses a lot of area/ground attacks that you need to keep dodging etc.

RMT could get involved if they wanted, but it'd be pretty useless considering you'd be trading currency for character-bound items.
