It's a player's choice. Why deter them the choice of claiming competition if they want it?
I for one avoid it, but you already see several people posted their enjoyment of it. And there's no reason for it not to co-exist with other methods of gameplay for similar or better rewards.
If the rewards for those strongholds, dungeons, or NMs were grossly overpowered compared to instances, then yes, I would be rather upset. However, Yoshi already mention that instances would offer better rewards.
Claim competition exist in some aspect for some open world content.
- EXP camps,
- the previous Halloween event (rewarded better for player who claimed first),
- anything that has to deal with obtaining loot from an open world monster.
It's a suppose to be a choice for players, you aren't forced to take that route.
- Such as for EXP, you could do leves although for lower EXP rate,
- for the Halloween event you can pick up the left over basket although for less cookies,
- for obtaining unique loot from an open world monster though there is no other choice but to camp out that monster until you can claim it.
The OP's outcry seems to be a concern about a possible missing aspect of gameplay.
So, what the issue is from what I gathered, are these strongholds are enjoyable methods for casual players to jump in to enjoy the game. However, confronted with heavy claim competition dampers the experience.
The OP is just requesting, if I'm correct,
- to create something else similar but without the hassle of claim competition that is instanced,
- or just relief the competition over whatever that is competed over.

I do remember a forum thread saying that the coeurl drops a tier 3 key, but wasn't ever able to obtain the key from it myself. You can also obtain the tier 3 keys from the tier 2 treasure chest as an alternative choice, which is what I did.
I've already mentioned Lurkers respawn roughly every 30 seconds, and 12~16 in groups of 4. That's plently enough for 4 individuals/parties to share. And even if they aren't sharing the respawn rate is fast, and key drop rate is high enough enough to satisfy over camping, which I have happen once before.
However, I haven't really gone into the stronghold with the intent of even getting the coffers, so I don't know what's the situation is for those coffers are. Mainly I go to those new strongholds to kill beastmen for EXP or soulbond leveling since they respawn absurdly fast and in abundance. And usually full parties of lvl45+ goes into these strongholds.
