Despite what I posted earlier, the fatal directx errors returned in force not much later.

I tried underclocking my GPU, but it was still crashing even at -100 hz below the standard values. A clean install of the graphics drivers didn't work, either.

What did seem to fix it, though, was adjusting the TDR delay to be eight seconds instead of two seconds. This is basically telling Windows to not give up on your GPU so quickly and assume it crashed due to a lull in activity, which causes it forcefully reset it and crash XIV. It normally does this to prevent your PC from crashing entirely, but as far as I can tell, the game is just getting a FPS hiccup that it mistakes as the GPU shutting off (Every time the crash happened, the GPU load was near 100%). I'd suggest looking up a guide, as it requires messing with your registry which can be dangerous if not done properly.

However, this is ultimately just a band-aid fix as there's still something wrong with the XIV client for this to be happening in the first place.

EDIT: After a nearly 12 hour period of no crashes, the game ended up crashing in the same way less then 20 minutes after I logged in the next day, so the "fix" didn't do anything...
