there's still something called minimum PC requirements.
there's still something called minimum PC requirements.
Graphics are an option that varies on an individual basis. I don't understand people who voice the opinion that everybody should be forced to use old graphics. If in 2018 you are still not able to own a computer that can easily run this game on at least medium to high settings, then there are far bigger issues at hand than playing the game.
Minimum PC requirements can be raised. Time is passing, technology is improving, so must the game. If it remains with the same level it had years ago, then progress cannot happen.
Not everyone plays on potatoes. All we're asking for is the option to play on higher graphical settings. Compared to other modern MMOs (and even some old ones that have updated their engines), FFXIV lags behind graphically.
First thing, don't mention paying for this on the Mog Station because that makes this game only worse and risks SE getting even greedier trying to sell us something that other games within their brands get for free like Final Fantasy XV!...
Now that everyone should know a HQ texture pack must be free for everyone I can mention a second point, the PlayStation 5 will be released next year most likely and that is sure to allow FFXIV to reach new quality standards like much better color palettes for dyable gear and of course better graphics, it all relies in the power of options but the dev team has been reluctant to give a thought!...
A small improvement I'd like to see is a much higher drawing distance because it's really cheap to see monsters disappear from screen which makes finding hunt marks very hard, the game barely uses about 2 GB of video memory which leaves me with nearly 9 GB of unused capacity!...
I've recently installed World of Warcraft, and i must say in my opinion ff is lightyears ahead in graphics quality. Character customisation options are also a joke on wow in comparison.
I do agree we could use a higher graphics option, but i wouldnt say the graphics lag behind.
I can imagine its not a small job to redo ALL the graphics to a higher resolutions and to have them both in the gamefiles. I also suspect it would increase the game files significant in size for everyone.
They're coming along with mods soon™
I did say 'modern' MMO. WoW is over a decade old. A more apt comparison would be Tera and/or Blade & Soul, which came out roughly around the time FFXIV released. Both games are gorgeous.
Would not happen. There is all kinds of liability involved, and just is not going to be a thing with a MMO game. That's all you need is someone sneaking something in that someone else claims copyright on because the "modder" stole it from another game, or an actual person/thing.
This just ignoring the issue. MMO's have to run on potatos otherwise only people with a $2500 machines can play it. FFXV, does not run well at all with, or without the high res textures, and oddly enough, runs slightly better with the high res textures due to less upscaling.Graphics are an option that varies on an individual basis. As paid DLC, it would be ridiculous and unworkable for a MMO. The way content is organized in the game would require an entire extra set of textures, ignoring the actual geometry issues that cause them to look wrong in the first place.
Increasing the texture size, increases the video memory requirements.

The most common card a person has a Geforce 1060. That is just good enough for 1080p, not 4K.
Only 1% of Steam users are using something grossly inferior (Intel onboard graphics)
Roughly half have "HD Capable" nVidia GPU's, while this doesn't actually tell us the video memory.
The 1060 is available in 3GB and 6GB versions.
SE, clearly has better textures, perhaps the issue with Hien's outfit was not apparent by whoever exported it, and thus it can't be fixed without re-downloading the entire Stormblood expansion. That is the cost of not having 150,000 files (which V1.0 had) taking up space and getting spread all over the place by the disk defragmenter.
If SE really wanted to, they could create another SKU for "HD" and "4K" texture package of the game, and modify the launcher to only download the version selected in the launcher, instead of downloading everything. That way they could be more selective of what is upgraded, and players won't have to download 4K textures if they don't have 4K capable hardware. Final Fantasy XV, installed with high res textures is 148GB, or a little more than 5 times the size of FFXIV.
