A thought in regards to Raubahn's condition (spoiler if you are new to the game)

When you save him he's definitely not in fighting form but he makes it an effort to get back into fighting form.

That can easily be attributed to his general state and likely lackluster treatment of his wounded arm after his capture. That's what he had to get back from, he didn't have to relearn how to fight or anything, at least we didn't get to see anything of that sort.

He didn't do much work at all. Hardly a few months had passed - if that - in the game's universe between him having his arm cut off and him showing up to fight in the tournament between Ishgard and the other Eorzean City States. He put up a fight without breaking a sweat (losing to the WoL because that's the fate of any who go up against the WoL). He then takes part in the battle to reclaim Ala Mhigo, effortlessly swinging his sword around to cut down soldiers.

We didn't see a struggle. We didn't see his 'disability' serve as a meaningful, long term consequence of his recklessness. Which is particularly grating when you consider that the only lasting consequence of ARR's ending was Teledji's death, which given that he was an antagonist isn't a terribly surprising conclusion.

He lost nanamo and the arm he used to lift her up and support her. It was the start of Nanamo realising she relied on him too much and the start of her development into a leader into her own right.

Some other symbolism that I did pick up on in 4.1 - the phrasing that Raubahn had pledged "his blade" (not himself) in service of Nanamo. What did he do with his second sword that he can't wield any more? He gifted it to Pipin, who is now serving Nanamo in his place. He may have been released from that position, but his oath remains unbroken.

I'm hoping that by putting him in Ala Mhigo, SE is effectively "retiring" him.

I...would be sad to see him go, if that's the case, but as long as it means that the other characters we're leaving behind in Ala Mhigo are being 'retired' as well, I could definitely live with only seeing Raubahn at major events when all the leaders get involved. It would be nice to see some of the other leaders/nations get a turn in the spotlight.

Ishgard characters are no longer prominent in the MSQ's outside of the occasional cameo. Hopefully Ala Mhigo is given the same treatment as it wouldn't sit well with me if it maintained prominence after Stormblood when there's so many other new areas to explore and older areas - such as Gridania - that haven't been given a fraction of the attention the likes of Ala Mhigo and Ul'dah have received.

If I had to pick one Ala Mhigan character to stick around it'd be Arenvald. He's far less grating than Lyse and Raubahn.
