Forum etiquette - double-posting vs separating ideas?

And this is the result. Please tell me you hung around to read that whole mess, took me 20 minutes to put together. Had to even put rules on it, only going as deep as three quotes in since snipping anything for any reason and getting rid of any context is rude.

I think you're trying to make a point, but I'm not sure what that point is, because quoting a single post and replying it is not anywhere near the same thing as reciting the entire thread as an exaggeration of Why Repeating Quotes Is Bad. At least I think that's the effect you're going for.



Personally I think I skim over the quoted text - you don't need to read every word of it again, just enough to know which thread of the conversation is being continued. The format and the white box is like an indicator to expect that it's repeated text and doesn't need to be read in the same detail as the other text - at least that's how my brain processes it.

See, the issue I'm pointing out is, if you're going to the extreme of snipping like Kisai is, it becomes a weird jarbled mess to sort through. But if you were to quote each and every one she snipped, it doesn't make the post any easier to digest.

Yes, I went overboard with it, however that oddly was also part of the point. I had to go just as if not more overboard with it than Kisai did.

Maybe this is why I don't consider snipping rude: I process quoted text as "snip" anyway, and then go back to the actual post and re-read it. Unless it's a very specific usage of quotes where the person is responding point by point.
