lol. Tell your group they're dumb and should let you in anyway. And here is why:

The one and only purpose of Sentinel is to lessen your time in the instance, and that is only by a small margine. Basically with Sentinel you're taking away the need to remove more than one spike during the Hellfire phase, allowing more DPS output on Ifrit.

Even without Sentinel, any class with 3000+ HP can survive Hellfire with one spike down if their HP is capped, not to mention there are other damage mitigating abilities available.

It IS more convenient, but it doesn't mean it's "necessary."

If it's an issue, drop two spikes instead of one. You will only be increasing your time in the instance by 15 - 25 seconds unless your group is slow.

There is no reason you should have to wait to play this content, if that's the case, find other people to go with, because the one's telling you that you "need" Sentinel, are the one's who don't understand the mechanics of the fight. Unless your group is under a constant "Let's do a speed run!" mentality, then there is no reason to require someone to have Sentinel.

I agree with you, but unfortunately many of the shouts in Ul'dah on Besaid have been "(Ifrit Bleeds, We Can Kill It) (Party) (Do You Need It?) (Sentinel) (Materia) (Please check it.)" I still try though ^^. Hopefully after this shipment of sap I can afford most of the materia I need, minus Savage Might IV (1.4mil atm) O.o.

Another issue is that I've never done it before, the active LS I was in broke for whatever reason, and no makeshift party wants a first-timer if they can avoid it :3 I got close yesterday though, so I have hope!

I don't know what the economy is like on your server, but board hides (9-12k), karakul fleece(6-8k), or bomb ash(2-4k) would all probably be better and faster than maple sap.
