Not going to lie, I'm getting kinda tired of people that would rather hurl abuse at you in DF than explain things.

Had a dude in DF just now go nuts because I'm pretty new to tanking (usually healer), and admittedly, I could have done a little better with timing my cooldowns in the Chrysalis - I've only ever done that fight as a WHM, but I certainly didn't deserve being called things such as a "lying sack of ****" because he assumed that I wasn't using them at all (I was!).

It's this kind of thing that really kills the game for me. I'm tired of people thinking that just because they are on the other side of a computer, that they don't have to act with some manner of decency.

I normally stick to lurking in this thread, but I finally decided to finish leveling WHM and AST. They're both 57 (and I'm sure I've given other people stories worthy of this thread along the way), so after I do my roulette, I bite the bullet and jump into the Vault on WHM. It's my first time healing it, but I've seen enough craziness on my way up that I should be able to handle the place, right? Well, let's see ....

• I load in and notice the WAR has less health in Defiance than the DPS. I quickly inspect her and find she's wearing the i90 left side, assorted i30-50 accessories, and an i45 weapon. I cringe, thinking this might not end well.
• We get through the trash to the first boss, but as you might expect, dps from me was minimal. No deaths yet, though, so at least I'm holding up that end of the bargain....
• .... until the fight starts, that is. I'm the first one picked for his random-target ability and I underestimate how hard it hits, so I left myself at ~75% health. I get flattened. Wipe #1.
• Try again, I get myself trapped by spheres and blown up. Wipe #2.
• Third attempt, we finally get by him, despite the fact that I ripped hate midway through (tank got it back quickly, though).
• Go through trash to second boss -- no deaths, but a couple close calls. I've been keeping Benediction mostly on cooldown.
• Second boss -- we wipe because I'm a derp and get knocked back into black holes. Second attempt wins, but still sees a dps go down because she took a black hole and I can't switch between the tank and her quickly enough.
• Ah, Charibert -- I'm already dreading this fight. The tank's picked up a couple upgrades during the run, so now she's near-even in health to the dps. It still doesn't leave a lot of cushion for keeping her up along with healing the aoe damage. We end up wiping twice -- once because tank takes a big hit while I'm breaking a chain and dodging knights, and I can't get back to her in time (and Bene was already on cooldown, again); and the second because I didn't notice I was out of MP, so I was trying to heal and wondering why nothing was happening.

Now, to be fair, the WAR seemed mechanically sound -- she was using cooldowns and (mostly) keeping hate; she simply had 55-60% of the health tanks at 57 normally have (and probably the corresponding decreases in defense), and considering that I could have prevented at least three of those wipes .... I figure I probably dragged that run out more than the undergeared tank did.

But at least we cleared (even if it was 60 minutes and 11 Benedictions later), right?

Also I queued again and landed in Shisui where the map was acting... weirdly. For every other player there was another dot on the map too like there were 7 players in the instance. I didn't realize to try howering over them but I already missed an extra add spawn with screenshots so I don't think standing around more would've been amusing for the others anyway.

Pets show up as a separate dot on the map so potentially.... scholar + fairy, summoner + egi and machinist + turret?

(Also because turrets are stationary but show up on the map as a 'party member' it can sometimes look like someone has been left behind in a previous room.)

I feel sorry that you had to put up with such a rude guy. Sometimes people forget that not every player has done everything and that there can be newbies.

In honesty, that shoudn't turn you off from tanking. It almost happened to me but decided to practice a bit with a friend and now I think tanking's really fun.

Why not ask some people in your FC if they can help you about tanking ?

This^ All of this and so much more. This is why there will always be bonuses for Tanks and Healers and very rarely dps. Because of the amount of abuse both have to put up on a near constant basis.

If party dies because they ignore an important mechanic Healer gets blamed, if Tank loses Aggro because DPS facepulled Tank gets blamed.But every single time it's always one or the others fault when 90% of the time it's really not.

I find it funny getting an all-arcanist team. So many DoT markers. (Now they just need to introduce a tank job for it...)

Went into Fractual Hard for the first time. Said I was new, died to mechanics at the end tank says in PT Chat:

I recommend you look into guides before entering things because from here, you'll most likely get tanks who won't put up with the shit.

My FC is really just me D: I take so many breaks because of college that it's hard to get into a free company and form bonds because I might be around one week, and then gone for another 6 haha. I do have a few lifelong friends that play; I will have to poke them until they let me sacrifice them in dungeons! <_>;

The last time I seriously tanked was like... back in the very early days of 2.0, and so everything has changed since then. I think the highest level content I did tank was labyrinth of the ancients haha. But since I have to take so many breaks, I get rusty again and it takes me a while to find my feet.

For sure! I honestly don't think the bonuses are worth it - sure, the achievement mounts can be nice, as can the extra xp.... But I'd rather not get either at the cost of my sanity haha
