What most people that are defending this as "optional" content don't get is that this is how bad things start. None of this is explicitly "p2w" unless you're a crafter and your game revolves around the market. The problem isn't what is now but what it will lead to down the road. I've played many mmorpgs in my time (unlike a lot of the people that seem to only have experience with wow or ffxi defending this app) and have seen seemingly innocuous "optional" microtransactions turn into full blown greed and p2w that totally destroyed most titles it happened in. Yet, because one person whaling thousands a month is worth more than 100s of players spending small amounts not only do they stay afloat but the companies couldn't care less if 100s leave because they're still making money.

Every time, people that at first defended these practices got a rude awakening and were among the loudest voices opposing them later though by then it was too late. Keep in mind, this is just in free to play games where people expect microtransactions to be a thing. We pay a subscription and buy the base game because the idea is that everything will be included due to that subscription. As is the mogstation is a very slippery slope that has become a place for things that didn't have a chance to be gotten ingame and are priced more than what we pay for a monthly sub. Sure it's just costumes right now but we're being forced to pay for more and more "convenience or optional content" until things that should have been a thing to begin with (such as moving items between retainers without withdraw/deposit spam) are going to be coined off as convenience items and features for some premium app with additional microtransaction currency.

Honestly, even if they don't do anything but add more convenience, even if it isn't "p2w" we're still being nickel and dimed on a service we pay for with the expectation that we're getting the full package. It's part of why I don't really bother with modern console games because of the prevalence of DLC and the notion that you can sell someone half a game then make them buy the other half later, intentionally releasing half finished products to double dip on people's wallets. QoL features should never be linked to an outside microtransaction system in a game we buy and pay a subscription for. What other future QoL features will be locked behind a paywall? Where do you draw the line? Because if you don't draw a line limits will be pushed far beyond what you expect or want.

I've seen it happen time and time again and you can check most mmorpgs that came out, got hyped up, then died out and you can be sure the microtransactions that started off painless played a big part in their demise. If you truly do care about this game you should be concerned about what this is but more importantly you should be concerned with what it may become if we let it. If you wait until you get that rude awakening yourselves then by then it'll be too late.
