While the thought isnt bad, I doubt clustering people with anxiety/depression will do anything other than normalise or aggravate the problems. I'd recommend to anyone who believes to be suffering from those ailments to seek professional help immediately.
Depression isnt a fashion statement, its a mental sickness that is cureable.

No one is treating it as such, and the Discord stresses to seek professional advice. It also lets people know that it is not a substitute for real, professional help, nor is it intended to be. It's more so a place where people who feel anxious can go to talk about whatever is causing them anxiety, or just somewhere positive for them to get away from the negativity.

Sometimes the first step towards seeking professional help is to put yourself in the right state of mind to accept it: a positive state. That is the purpose.

Hearing that you're not alone, it's not 'just you' or 'all in your head' helps, too.

As someone who thought they were completely alone with these exact thoughts, I have to agree. I have found it much easier to cope and seek help knowing that the things I think and feel are not just something exclusive to me—this doesn’t make me feel like some sort of horrible plague on society. Just knowing that others are in the same boat as you—and doing all they can to get better and stay positive, regardless of what the voices in their heads are screaming at them—helps reduce the stigma surrounding anxiety and depression.

The chat thus far has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive. I’m proud to be part of such a thing, and I hope it remains as such for as long as the server is around! If it can help even just one person, then I feel like it’s worth it (hopefully, it will help more than just one, though!).

I understand your sentiments, but this is more of a social space that encourages positivity. The option is there to vent, but this is more of a spot where folks can gather and talk without feeling the pressure of anxiety and depression. And of course, we encourage anybody who suffer from this to get mental health. But sometimes, folks just need a relaxing place to just talk and hang out.

Let me pull up a couple of sections for you. First, from just below the usual "Welcome to the server!" shpeel.
This discord is meant for Eorzeans that wish for a social and “open space” to discuss mental health and other mental health awareness issues. However, this community is not a substitute for professional mental health services. The administrators and community members present are not considered mental health professionals, merely individuals that wish to extend an open invitation for discussion. If you feel like you need to seek professional help, please do so, as this community is not equipped to provide the professional services that may further assist you with whatever may be troubling you.
    Secondly, from our rules:
Keep the atmosphere positive. We understand people will have bad days. But if you are considered a continuously negative influence on the Discord you risk removal, in the interests of keeping the server positive.
We've already looked at these issues and put measures into place to counteract them. Don't worry, we got this all covered!

Recently we've been talking about consoles, gaming peripherals, and the like.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

I agree completely with your statement. It might be easier to think of this as a support group, though, which is as equally important to professional help. It's one thing to talk to a professional regularly (I do), but it's another to speak to someone who's going through the same stuff you are, or has been through it and come out; there's no teacher like experience. When you live with mental health issues, "normalising" as you put it, is super important. Normalising in the sense that what you feel, how you feel, isn't something you're alone in, and the challenges you face are dealt with by people *like* you (so I can do it too, gosh darnit!!), rather than "just the healthy folk".

First thing my psychiatrist and my counselor both told me is there is no "cure" for depression. It can be treated and you can go on to have a full life without ever needing treatment again. But the chance of it resurfacing due to any random trigger is always going to be there.

This. Grouping people up with mental disorders that can be agitated specifically by others who have the same disorder is a bad idea. I can only believe these people are just wearing the labels as a fad cause it's cool to say that these days. Otherwise if they genuinely had these problems they should, as you said, seek real help and should avoid others with the same issues to not further normalize/feed off each others issues.
