I feel like you're doing this comparison a disservice when you don't mention the other side of the coin related to WoW - yes, you can buy any cash shop item, paid service, or future expansion with in-game gold in WoW.

But you can also be the one buying and selling the items (tokens) that are bought with that in-game gold, and to do that you're spending real money.

They've legalized RMT in their game. Don't forget that when using it as a comparison.

You think getting an extra transaction that can easily lose its advantage to just a couple others playing the game is bad? Try getting a couple hundred thousand gold a pop for about twenty bucks whenever you feel like it.

I agree with you that what WoW does is significantly worse.

That doesn’t allay the concern that we are on that path merrily marching towards it. 2 years ago we didn’t have emotes tied to $150 statues. We didn’t have months where they would add 5 unique cash shop items. Have months with multiple merchandise items announched. We didn’t have a Companion app with IAP added.

The questions become “What’s next?” and “Where does it end?”

People are concerned because the answer that some people come up with is “I don’t know anymore.” That can be scary and offputting to people who wouldn’t want to invest in a game or ecosystem that operates in ways they don’t want to be part of.

Just here to drop my 2 cents. I had been playing FF14 since ARR until last christmas where i've decided to stop resubbing. It was hard because i really love FF and i have a house in game. But by then i had gotten fed up of repetitive system. New patch, new tomes, start farm. It was the same for DOW,DOM and DOL. The same recipe, never changing. Life had also become busy for me, i have permanent job, i got married and in a month time i will give birth to our first daughter. I have less time to farm new tomes or repeatedly do 24 man raid for that one specific part that i need. And i also I realized that all the hard work i had put into this game was only validated for 3 months at most before new tomes come out and all my achievement were flushed down the toilet. So why bother right? And that's the reason i decided to not renew my sub. i still love the game very much and still looking for a reason to return. But i really havent found a reason to return by the negative feedback of eureka and now kupo coins. Maybe something ingame will change in the future to make the game awesome again, maybe it will not. But this game in its current state is no longer fun for me. I have lost my rose tinted glasses and i see this game as a hamster wheel.

Goodbye fellow adventurers, may rngezus smile upon you. I hope we can meet again someday.

Ps: My 2 cents on the kupo coin, i guess you can say that you are paying for a premium service.

No video game is worth "investment", unless you go pro it's all a waste of time. Play it if you have fun, don't expect anything other than that in return. At the end of the day it's whether you feel you've gotten a decent amount of entertainment value out of the dollars and time you have spent.

For me that has been happening less and less since SB. SB was off to a great start though, I will say that. But they're putting too much focus on profit, not enough on gameplay, and I no longer feel like my monthly sub is worth it as a result. I've been playing since 2.0 launch. Only way that SE will listen is if people close their wallets, so that's what I'm doing. No need for me to make a thread, no need for me to make a scene. Just giving my feedback and moving on. I will be in a few days when my sub runs out.

Hope you find something that really grabs your fancy or that this game gets back to what you loved in the first place. 16 bucks a month isn't huge though, it's gonna be worth it for a while for me. I've spent far more money on far shorter entertainments.

I don't regret the time or money I've spent in this game. It has been a fun ride. But, it's time to hop off this train which seems dead set on crashing itself. I'm not going to stick around and watch it happen.

I haven't had faith in Square since before the fluke that was the first FF, and I lost faith in Enix when they closed down Quintet right as "Terranigma" was being translated (so we never got it here legally in the US). If anything I have faith more in individual games as they come, but only after I see enough of the game to bother.

SE is not a "japanese EA". I troll when i say this directly.
BUT i really think SE is on the same road. This is why i do this fight there. Just EA is many kilometers ahead on this road (yes, EA and others are worse)


I speak more, cry more also for other reason : i love FF games (even if FFXII was the last i bought, but not only because of game... i clearly play less solo game now than before) i love what square enix was. Hate and love is close right?
I speak more now that i did for RMAH in D3, or cash shop appearence on the 2 MMORPG i did prefer for now in my life. (and... i already said, and will never stop saying it : Blizzard did open this pandora's box. probably SE wouldnt need this to open it themselves, BUT blizzard did it... but it wont help FFXIV to say this)



I am now clearly thinking on stopping my two subscriptions (and loosing the house even if yoshida said "these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.")
But i have, and will ever have hope to see Square Enix returning in a "moral" way. Who knows?

Tbh knowing EA modus operandi I don't think they are remotely close to become like them, If I were a betting man I would put my money on SE becoming like Konami

edit: I think I should add that personally I'm well aware that all companies are not my friends or will have my best interests in the long run, in a way I'm jaded towards them and just waiting for CD project red to fall and become like the others. But perhaps I should be less pessimistic
