This is actually borderline quitting territory for me. I only play as a tank, but I don't do savage. FFXIV is a gear collecting simulator for me. If I'm going to be sitting in queue for 30 minutes over and over until I finally get a group that can clear the content, just to lose rolls on my gear over and over because some other "tank" came in as a DPS to putz around, I'm gonna get real frustrated real fast and end up leaving the game. 24 mans have, for me, been the hardest content to get all of my gear from and this is making it potentially seven times more difficult. No thanks.

Not really as bad as it sounds, pretty sure weekly loot lock out will still be a thing. This also means they could fiddle with the difficulty on the 24raids a bit since you can run with main jobs rather than alt jobs. They definitely need something for once weekly lockout is gone though, I guess they can just make the mhachi/rab coins tradable for gear and add a token to the arr raids, they tend to be rather useless once that happens anyway so... yeah...

Even though I very rarely need gear from these instances and I always pass unless I want a glam item, I think this is an hilariously bad idea.

But why they want to do this? Is this one of their plans to force people to play more the new 24man dungeon?

Now it makes a bit more sense. I've run Alliance Raids with friends who couldn't get in on the job they wanted gear for because their ilevel was too low. So they couldn't do the thing Alliance Raid was meant for (gearing up alts) because their alt wasn't geared up. This new system will prevent that sort of thing from happening, since you can just go on your geared up main job and roll for your alt.

Sooo.... longer queues for dps waiting on tanks and healers, now!
On the flip side, there's nothing stopping someone who wants to gear their DPS class from queuing as a tank or healer now (if you've got one at ilevel). Bypass those queue times, resting easy in the knowledge that you're not giving up your Need roll, since you wouldn't have it anyway.

While some kind of token system would almost certainly be a better solution, I can at least see what the devs were going for.

This is a pretty lame excuse seeing the ilvls are always set low. Rabanastre was a paltry i305. If you couldn't be arsed to farm Verity gear, you were simply lazy.

There are lots of reasons why people might not have the ilevel to get into Alliance Raids on a particular job. Maybe they just hit 70 that day. Maybe they've been leveling a bunch of jobs and already spent all their Verity. Maybe they just don't play as much. Regardless, when the stated main purpose of Alliance Raids is supposed to be to gear up alts, but you're not able to gear up your alts with it, then the system has failed.

You want gear for a sub job, then play the sub job. In the long run, who will get hurt the most here: the player maining a job and actually playing that job in the raid that needs the gear and doesn't get it because someone else own a greed role. Besides, most players have full mendacity or damn close to it and are looking to augment that gear with the new coin, or they have current BiS gear and if I recall from past experience the 24 man raid gear was never BiS. This system benefits NO ONE, and hurts a good many. this is a terrible move that should never be implemented.

suggestion: First, maybe be have the game be conscious about what jobs are in the raid group. If I only have one ninja player, don't drop two sets of ninja pants for the group. Also not dropping gear for the group when no one in that group is currently on that job.

I have a level 50 NIN (I don't but for example's sake). I want to gear it. I rolled a 99 Greed on the, say, NIN top, while on my BLM and won it over 3 NINs who actually needed it. Does this make the least amount of sense to you? Every single argument in favor of this you brought up works for people who just can't play the game as much so their potential to get tomestones is limited, especially when the damned things are weekly capped to begin with and you need two weeks just to get either the top or the pants. One week per other item. And if you don't like the stats on that piece?
Alliance raids are there to help play gear catch up for your mains, too. The reason why this feels like such a random curveball to so many people is that "Alliance roulettes are there to gear up alts" is a random excuse SE pulled out of practically nowhere. It doesn't even make sense.

You're swinging it too far in the other direction. We shouldn't make it impossible to gear up alt jobs (two sets of nin pants would let the nin in the party Need on it while the other is free to Greed on), but the problem here is that suddenly it's the raid's main objective.
