At one point late in Stormblood (I think when you've finished the quests at the M tribe and are about to leave), you can talk to Alisaie and she mentions she's thinking of going to visit Sharlayan 'when this is all over'...


Also, I'm replaying ARR at the moment, and just did the pre-Titan fetchquest. An interesting character there is Drest, the hermit in Raincatcher Gully - you learn he was a conscripted Garlean soldier from a "conquered land", and though he never actually says where he's from, he doesn't look Doman so he might be from somewhere in Ilsabard. Maybe we can finally help him to go home.

Drest is from somewhere with a desert, if I recall correctly. He gets a postmoogle quest that expands on him a bit, though it doesn't give specific names.

It's worth it. They give interesting background for a lot of the minor characters. Plus you get a neat hat!

Where? How would that justify being worth in another expansion? Each one needs to hit separate themes, aesthetics and storylines, and all of Eorzea's city-states have now been explored in their cultures, societies, etc. (Yes I know we didn't actually go into Ala Mhigo proper and that sucks.)

I can see them maybe adding new Eorzean zones if we, say, went to the New World or something. But they'd need to add something different. If another part of Thanalan is added that's just "stony badlands/desert/savanna" with the same kind of monsters, people, and architecture, it doesn't offer anything new.

I don't disagree that Eorzea is still partially unmapped, but not so much that it deserves a whole expansion to flesh the rest of it out, at least not anytime soon I don't think.
