Yeah this really feels like they need to fund the FFVII remake on the backs of FFXIV subscribers.

So we can just materialize Ala Mhigan Gowns out of thin air now? I really hope I'm just reading into it wrong...
It's a misinterpretation of the slides.
In the slides they said searching the market and putting items for sale is both free and premium
BUT the next slides reveal how exactly that work, you can't sell or buy items in the market unless you use the new cash currency.
It's labeled as free because:
You get "kupo nuts" from daily login, I imagine 1 kupo nut = you can do 1 purchase/sale in the market every day, for premium it's 2 transactions per day.
Then they introduce an additional currency you can pay real money for which allows you to buy/sell items with no limit at an additional cost
In conclusion: they walled the entire market function behind a microtransaction (moogle coins) and you get 1 free coin per day (2 if premium)
Am I the only one not mad at this? The app and the servers it interacts with need to be funded somehow. Okay ideally it would be free, but lets be real here. It appears the app can do some advanced stuff. Most apps with this level of advancement have some sort of cost whether it's real money or advertisements.
The app doesn't appear to be remotely mandatory. Sure premium has perks but they look minor to me. Double the chocobo saddlebag size is nice but personally if I wanted more storage I'd pay for another retainer, not the app. A retainer has more storage and much more utility than a saddlebag. The app also increases the cap on retainers by one but most players aren't at the cap at all.
I'd say most players would struggle to argue that they need the app. I'm only going to get it out of curiosity, not because I need it. It literally does nothing I can't already do myself.
Or how about they just not have an app at all? This is an MMO which needs to be played on decent computers or a PS4. Why the hell do we need an app? I'd rather not have it at all, especially if this is what we're getting. Did anyone even ask for this? Jesus.Am I the only one not mad at this? 「Life is such a fragile thing…」
Well you're not punished for not using it so if you don't like it don't use it. As I said already there is nothing about it that makes it mandatory.
I get the feeling the app may be more aimed at the japanese market. Their school and working hours tend to be far longer than in the west, so I can see how they might get great use out of it.
While I don't like the idea of needing special currency to use the app to buy/sell/adjust prices, it otherwise looks pretty good. I'm not sure if I'm willing to pay for premium, but the free features are around what they'd told us we could expect. We're getting a way to chat, a calendar, and we even got inventory arrangement. I'm not sure what else people would want in a companion app.
Especially since everything the app does, people could just do on their computer/ps4 while playing the game. It'll definitely help me be less productive at work.
I used to play another game a while back that was both subscription based and had many p2w elements. At least the monthly sub for that game could be bought for as low as $5 though. We are already paying a minimum of $13 a month for this. Why must everything go down the tubes....
The thing is we're already paying a premium subscription every month on top of paying the mogstation for some glam items. Pay walling content like the ability to get a lot more MB uptime is F2P territory. And not even the good kind, the P2W kind (you get a tangible in game advantage over others.. not just extra comfort).Am I the only one not mad at this? It just isn't acceptable for a subscription based game (of which you also need to purchase the game AND the expansions) to implement F2P schemes, period.
And if their only concern were paying for the app servers there are plenty of other ways they could've gone about it.
They could/should make the app a one time purchase. Or have a lite version and a premium one time purchase version. Or hell, I would even accept an in app subscription if what you gained from it was ONLY extra comfort.
But them implementing in app currency and giving you access to real benefits is a tell tale sign that we're getting F'd up the A.

So.. to ruin an already bad market plagued with mass undercutting, you charge rl money to do so on the go, GEeeee that sounds like a swell idea.
