It's a misinterpretation of the slides.

In the slides they said searching the market and putting items for sale is both free and premium



BUT the next slides reveal how exactly that work, you can't sell or buy items in the market unless you use the new cash currency.

It's labeled as free because:



You get "kupo nuts" from daily login, I imagine 1 kupo nut = you can do 1 purchase/sale in the market every day, for premium it's 2 transactions per day.

Then they introduce an additional currency you can pay real money for which allows you to buy/sell items with no limit at an additional cost



In conclusion: they walled the entire market function behind a microtransaction (moogle coins) and you get 1 free coin per day (2 if premium)

When the game first came out SE had promised that the game would not sponsor any pay to win type ideals. The game has slowly started to migrate these micro-transaction, and pay to win ideals into the game over time. It started with the small mog station items, and has now evolved into something so much more. I'm very upset about these changes. The Moogle coins and paid premium is what takes the cake in nearly coming close to ending my interests in this game. If it goes too much farther there will be literally nothing separating FFXIV from any other MMORPG. At that point I wonder...What's the point.

If you want the app to be "removed", I suggest you don't make any purchases concerning the app. At the end of the day, money and things that occur talks.

I have no need for such apps if I can manage my inventory, items, glams, and housing just fine right now.

The thing I fear about this is whether or not people find out how to hack the xiv companion IPA and give themselves unlimited moogle coins. Since apple doesn't tell the app developers about who refunded what, u can essentially make several purchases for the max amount of currency and then refund it all through apple and then go and give urself through a hacked IPA the equivalent of all those moogle coins that u bought and XIV won't know that u refunded it and you will have the amount u purchased so u essentially got free money to spend on marketboard. The devs wont be the wiser. I think this is a really bad idea.

Also its pretty fail that you cant use the item part of the app.. as long as you are logged in...
