Saturday morning cartoons in FF14 housing

One of the argument of people being against instanced housing is that they want lively wards. Since i got a small house with the last housing changes, i can't help but to notice that i see way, way less players than down my instanced appartment. Which is kinda normal if you ask me, when several of them all take the same door to exit and end up in the exact same place rather than being scattered through several huge wards.

Number of people i did see since i got my house, in almost two months : 3. Yes, that's not a typo, only 3.
- the first one don't even count, he did pass by 30 seconds after i did buy the spot, and teleported away seeing he was too late to snatch it ;
- the second did stop 20 seconds at the market board, and was never seen again ;
- the third did stop a bit longer at the retainer's summonning bell, and was never seen again as well.

I didn't even choose an isolated spot, there is other houses on all sides of mine. The market board nearest from them being right in front of my portal, all players living in the neighborhood are in the obligation to go right in front of my house if they want to buy something from it. Yet there is nobody, as there is not a single soul to be seen as i go sometimes check how the other gardens looks like.

Maybe i am surrounded by shells fc who dont find buyers, or by people who got bored with housing as soon as they did get a spot, and now enter them once every 45 days to not get them demolished, go figure.

Good god OP, you came across some pretty strange people! Putting furnishings in front of the door to prevent you from getting in? Why not just lock their door?

Almost everyone I initiated conversation with in housing districts has been at least polite if not very nice. There's even someone in my fc who we first met in the housing district our fc house is in.

The immediate area around my FC used to be hopping before the housing patch in 4.2. Only one or two people in our FC had their own house, so most of us would hang out in the street in front of our house. And there was a RP FC right across from us in the small house with another RP FC just past it and one up the steps, so we'd see them all the time around our street and market board. They'd even do RP events on the beach just down the stairs or in one of their yards from time to time. All in all it was quite lively.

After the housing patch, several of us in our FC got personal housing finally, so we tend not to hang out as much together in front of our FC house as we used to. And all of the RP-FCs that existed in our little corner of the housing area moved their houses to different plots somewhere I don't even know. The house they moved from are all owned by single players now, and I only ever see one of them regularly. She's nice, but it's still a ghost town compared to before. I'm not saying the housing patch was a bad thing, by any means, since it let many of my friends finally realize their house owning goals, and on Balmung no less. It definitely did have a significant impact on our neighbourhood though.

I do have a non-responsive neighbour at my personal house, but they're not outwardly rude about it. I just waved and said hello on the first day we moved in, and got no response, so just left it at that. My upstairs neighbour is pretty silent as well, although we've had a couple of exchanges. Nothing anywhere like the experience of one of my neighbours physically blockading their entrance in response to a hello, though. I wouldn't worry about it. That's them just being them, and has nothing to do with you. Ignore it and move on.

On the morning that they first opened up the new wards my wards area chat was busy with everyone excited and congratulating each other...and it died almost immediately after that lol. I have seen 4 people in my ward (barring my FC mates) since then. Its depressing how dead wards are.

Part of that probably has to do with the fact that the interior is a different instance to the exterior. So no chit chat in shout or yell if you're indoors. A general channel that works indoors and outdoors for each housing district would be nice so that those who want conversation could easily have it.

We have a ls that every member of my ward belongs too and no one, not a single person, uses it. Every now and then someone will ask for help in their workshop or just says hi and get 0 responses. When we do get a talker and keeps talking even if no one responds you start seeing ppl leave the ls. So you could try a ls out but don't expect miracles.

To OP. I was friendly with my neighbors once. We had a chat, laughed and teased each other and then I had to move to get away from them. They spent more time in my house than theirs, they would rp in my house and they would not leave me alone. I had to lock my house and remove anything from the exterior they could interact with. I had to put myself on /busy when I was outside and I even shut off emote msgs in my log because of them.

So that could be part of the problem, some ppl just do not understand boundaries and once those flood gates open, there is no closing them. And frankly if someone just sat there staring at me while I was crafting, I would get out of dodge quick too. That's a bit creepy depending on how long you sat there. If they don't respond, move on.

I always wave to random people in the neighbourhood and they always wave back, sometimes conversations. I'm on a JP server so the language barrier is there, but it's still a nice feeling of community.

Hmm...glad I'm not the only one who saw it that way. I mean I wasn't my intent to be "creepy" or anything, like if I were trying to bother that person I would have simply hopped over the fence to annoy/harass them since we can do that. I also understand that they don't have to talk to me, I was just trying to be friendly and that's it, period. Furthermore, I just thought it'd be cool to check other's houses out and let them know that they did a good job, or they made something look cool etc. etc. possibly make pals this way, but as others have said...This sort of instance is the norm. Oh well, guess I could always just leave mog mail now in the new patch, but then again I'd probably be deemed creepy or a nuisance for that too.

Ah, you know how some sort of villain used to stroll through a town and everyone would hide in the buildings and lock everything up? The kinda stuff you would see on Saturday morning cartoons. I thought I said something about that in my original post, but maybe I didn't sorry for your confusion that I may have created for you.
