I'm with Viion on this about the 'whining'. I'm not whining, I'm grumbling, BIG difference. (I'm female, trust me, I know what a WHINE sounds like )

I just have the annoying trait of coming from an art background, with some design thrown in. This game has a "feel" to it. Yes, it's a fantasy game, yes there's magic, yes there should be a few splatterings of crazy weapons - but after what story I went through with Gridania, the LAST thing I want to see is some moogles duct-taped to my weapons. Carved in like on the ax (and I guess shield/sword, need to watch it again, didn't catch the gladiator stuff) makes much more sense.

Why is that one carved, and... all the others duct-taped on with stuff you get at a carnival? Visually they don't go together. They look like goofy holiday drops from running around chasing renegade moogles to me. Something cute to get and toss into your inventory, not hunt down a giant buffalo with.

I agree with your sentiment, but tbh they've already bucked the trend w/ the Ifrit weapon designs, these moogle weapons are the same, just on the other side of the spectrum. As long as they don't make these type of stuff the majority, I suspect we'll all just get used to it and move on soon enough.

That being said, a lala wielding the moogle pug weapons while it goes "kupo!" with every hit just brings a smile to my face XD

This is a great post, and you make several good points. However, I disagree with your fundamental premise. This fight seems to be extremely tongue and cheek. I worried about the Ifrit weapons for many of the reasons you mentioned here. They may have "looked cool", but they were stylistically inconsistent with the rest of the game. Even ignoring the level of frivolity this fight seems to have, I would go as far as saying that as silly as these weapons are, they are stylistically much closer to the game's roots than the Ifrit weapons.

The scale, color schemes, and weapon construction are all in keeping with older designs. Similarly they all follow the world's rules. They have flare, silly flare, but a little levity is not necessarily a bad thing.

The comment about the internal inconsistency is definitely valid. I would have preferred if they had all be silly, or all been serious, but it isn't a large enough faux pas for me to get too irritated about.
