Why have PF folks started to call party members as just their job?

I noticed I sorta interesting trend in PF groups lately where when I'm in duty with them, and someone needs to address another member, they just call say "BRD, make your in the right spot, or SCH we need more healing." Why can't they just call them by name? It seems a bit rude...

I mean I get it's easier, but there's a sort of a blunt rudeness and disrespect about it that rubs me the wrong way.

For some players, such as myself, it's much easier to just type in the three digit job title. Easier to type, especially for some players who have long names. It's not really so much as a disrespect thing as it is just easier when in instances.

    - Some people use absurd long names
    - Some people just play seeing the initials on their party
    - Calling with the job is easier and personally I don't find it rude

I don't think its new, it's been around for a while. Ease is probably the reason why. Some people don't type well and letters are at a premium, and I guess it's effective, albeit not very polite.

Doesn't seem to be a thing on voice, but that's probably because saying "Red Mage" is no easier than saying "Bob".

That's me, I have to target you if I want to see your whole name, not happening in middle of duty

It's not rude. You typically wouldnt have this issue in voice, but for text chat its way easier to go by role (wooooot three letters vs somepeoples insanely long or weirdly spelled names!). It's just your job role, theres zero rudeness or disrespect when youre playing that job since well that is your current role in the party, so dont take it personally :3

Heck when im in overwatch we call each other by the characters as well. since some people make some, interesting, names on the internet....also less chance of coming off as rude or offensive when saying some of these, interesting, names. so the same applies in FFXIV.

Eventually our language is going to be grunting and just symbols to communicate with each other, why bother typing when you can do 3 letters?

The annoying one for me is when people call you buy your last name instead of your first.

So my character is Dzian Cielo. Mostly referred to as dz.
I have a friend called Cielo Sol. Or they were till they changed race.

But at one point ages ago we were in a pf group doing lakshmi and we had called sides. I said I'd go east with a dry friend during the charmed thing. Anyway after a wipe party leader said Cielo go west. And then wondered why I stayed east with the drg and my friend cielo as whm went west and got killed by the other 2 charmed dps. Then leader was like why did the healer go west. And everyone was like you told him to.....

Leader then flipped and said he wasvralking to me....

Sounds like he had first names as initials. I usually do last names in my party list if im running in 8 man content. That's always something you may run into.

To me it depends on what they use it for.

If it's something like "the scholar should take care of it because they have indom", where it's actually because of a reason tied to my job, then I typically don't mind.

But if it's something like "scholar has prey" (or whatever), then it's like "erm...ok. I have a name."

I also don't like it when people do it for other party members, especially for calling out who's got a mech that deals damage, because as a healer I have to prep for it and now I have to look at an icon instead of reading a name (and I'm much faster at reading names).
