    I would like to be able to tie a glamour plate to a gear set as well but that might be an issue with the current restrictions on where we can use the plates if gear is being shared between sets.
    Last Friday's liveletter confirmed this is how they will function in 4.3, it will not apply to the gear and rather be tied directly to the gearsets themselves. Which implies you can change out gear pieces and retain the same plated appearance. That also means that jobs that share gear can have individual appearances without macros—finally.

    You made this statement literally the day they announced that Plates will be tied to gearsets in 4.3; and it's free mind too... imagine that.

    I haven’t read the notes, but are you sure it’s “not applied to the gear”? From the way the plate system currently works, I would expect that it still applies the plate to the gear, though linking it to the gearset means it does that automatically when you switch sets. But the gear itself would still be glamoured as the last equipped gearset it was included in.
