    I don't really want to see open world PvP, but having some engaging PvP offerings could create a vibrant community within FFXIV itself.

    Going up against other players is the only true test of skill since you'll be up against intelligent opponents with unexpected tactics, unlike your typical, scripted PvE fights where the routine is completely predictable. And online fighting games are immensely popular just for the thrill of the combat itself, even without the need for special rewards. PvP has huge replay value, even with a minimum of updates, that keep people entertained for ages.

    Really, the best kind of question that needs answering is why did FFXI's Ballista, Brenner, and even Pankration never really gain any momentum after they were introduced? They were popular for a time, but seemed to fade out, almost tragically. If you could solve that problem, then PvP would be a welcome addition to the game, I'm sure.

    To answer that question, It simply wasn't rewarding, and served no purpose except to kill time.

    Disabled Skills

    The follow skills cannot be cast within castles:

    Assumptio
    Back Slide
    Basilica
    Cultivate Plant
    Endure effect(still gives to you +10 MDEF bonus)
    Hocus-pocus (iRO only)
    Ice Wall
    Sheltering Bliss
    Snatch
    Teleport
    Warp Portal

    Skills cast outside the castle will not disappear upon entering. Using items that activate the skill will also fail, but Autocast equipment can grant the skills in a castle.

    Battle Mechanic Changes

    Flee is reduced by 20%.
    Long range normal attacks are reduced by 25%.
    All skill-based damage except Gloria, Domini and Gravitational Field is reduced by 50%.
    Traps last 4 times as long.
    All knock back effects are disabled. Some skills like Cicada Skin Shed may lose some functionality due to this.
    Equipment preventing skills to be canceled during casting (phen card and similar items) do not function.

    Other Gameplay Changes

    /noctrl does not work; players must hold down the mouse button for normal attacks.
    Damage numbers do not appear.
    /mineffect is automatically activated.
    A character's guild emblem is shown above their head.
    Death does not cause experience loss.

    Isn't the reward coming out on top against other human opponents?

    But if it's acclaim you want for having done that, I'm sure the achievement system can hand you a few trophies for doing a good job.

    about this, Yoshida once said there ll only be a few area in the standard world, if there are a lot of request they might consider make a separate server with fully open world pvp. So be at ease.

    edit: in my case, I hope when Yoshida say Open world pvp = pk system
