3rd party programs, even client-side, can be detected, and that includes modified textures etc. If the developer cares for that, that is. In that case they also need to inform the player that they are monitoring their system in whatever degree is necessary for their detection tools.

As for FFXIV...I doubt they care so I highly doubt they do it. Outside of highly competitive games, it's just really pointless to waste any resources on such security, especially since it is not without its performance cost. Realm Reborn was made partly with reducing the system requirements in mind too...It's just that it's not impossible unlike people seem to think.

As far as I am aware, FFXIV does not have client-side monitoring to detect modification, hacks, or cheats. If it did, then all these botters floating around in Frontlines and on the Market Board would have been caught a long time ago.

Technologically speaking, they can. There are ways to detect tools like that, especially when there are only a handful of known ones. There's a cost to doing that (developer and QA time), privacy implications, and such, and they don't seem to place a lot of priority on it. I mean, parsers are also against the ToS, and YoshiP was watching ultimate streams with parsers prominently displayed. Nothing was done. They operate on a don't ask, don't tell system.

Most of what I have read about these mods is it only affects the client that person is running. So they may have some cool vids, but to everyone else they look normal in the game.

SE does no client side monitoring whatsoever. There is no upside for them going after players using said harmless programs, so they don't.

Their focus is on tracking and eliminating bots, exploiters, and the like. Completely different animals.

That being said, they are bound by the tos, so if you start babbling in shout or say about what you do or use, it only takes someone to report you to get you into trouble, and there's plenty of that sort of mean spiritedness out there.

Hence why I said I doubt they do and that it would interfere with one of their goals of making the game have lower resource usage. I really don't think I need to be told what I said myself, in response to the very post in which I posted that.

yeah the hush dont tell could help you until the STF team catches you since they do investigate on players that cheat, bot or use third party programs in game. we may not see the issues being solved but they do their work, just check the lodestone and how many accounts they ban each week.
Serious raiders have been using the DPS meter addon for years now and guess what? Nobody is banned.

They don't even ban botters who use 3rd party cheat programs to directly cheat in game. I've done a lot of report for certain characters in Frontlines PvP and at gathering nodes yet here they are months later still playing on.
In Frontlines everyone knows them. They mark them and vote kick them after 5 mins passed. They are well known.
No SE does not ban cheaters. Perhaps only few who cheat/exploit raiding.
Don't know why this. Maybe they can't really detect them or they care for profit and subs to the point they would allow anything and play the deaf and blind.
A ToS just like a Law in real world does nothing and means nothing unless you actually follow it and exercise it.
Parsing programs are allowed unless you harass someone in chat.
Reshade is also allowed as it's an overlay program and doesn't really alter anything in client.
    Texture mods same.
Like people said it's don't ask don't tell.

The interesting thing about this topic, Yoshi P said in a recent interview that they actively watch the World First livestreams. Many of these are using ACT in the video/stream, and no one gets banned. So my opinion, don't shout it to the world in game, and you're golden. They have made clear their stance on using 3rd party platforms to ban people. So don't post it here and don't post it in game.

EDIT: Missed someone saying this above, but the point stands.

You can talk about it to some extend. What isn't allowed however is harassing people that do low DPS with spamming the numbers in chat.
