Based on the information provided, we have come to the conclusion that a complete reinstall of the game may be necessary. Please uninstall Final Fantasy XIV from your computer. Make sure to delete any remaining FFXIV files from your computer, including any potential files in your ‘Documents’ folder. Then reinstall the game from scratch. I mentioned trying a clean boot earlier but I'm not sure if you gave the results of that. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.

Can you submit a FFXIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

I understand, we ask players to do that just to make sure that nothing is interfering with the the game and cause issues like the one you are experiencing.

You mentioned that you run the audio through your display's speakers using the HDMI cable, correct? Do you have any external speakers that you can use? This may help eliminate these issues.

I feel your pain.
I have exactly the same issue and I made a thread here not too long ago.
Tried everything that was proposed to me to no avail.
Formats, game clean install, different audio drivers, closing programs, changing to border-less window, disabling Windows 10 game mode, disabling Full Screen Optimisations, run the game with Windows 7 and 8 compatibility mode, disabling any overlay.
Absolutely nothing helped. The game keeps losing sound randomly. No other application or game that I play have this issue.
I even contacted my motherboard's manufacturer and still nothing. I was able to somewhat decrease the frequency of the cut-outs by doing one more format and the problem is not solved. It keeps happening to me. My PC is only few months old but I had the same issue on my older PC as well. If you happen to find a solution let us know.

This is a old known issue with the game sound engine.
Everything that changes devices or settings during gameplay will cut off the sound.
This also happens multiple times to me. the sound engine should normally recover in such situation, but in ffxiv ist just cut off or crashes the client.

I understand, we ask players to do that just to make sure that nothing is interfering with the the game and cause issues like the one you are experiencing.

Einmimiria I really appreciate that you are trying to help us here but it's clearly nothing that can be resolved from us and with any of the steps you and the team trying to propose here. There are many people with the same issues like me. I had a similar thread here few months ago and it was moved to another category. I tried literally everything. I even contacted my motherboard's manufacturer. The issue happens only with this game and nowhere else. Can this issue pls reported back to the Japanese dev team?
The usual steps do absolutely nothing. The issue is driving nuts to the point thinking to just stop playing and I don't want to stop playing.
Can you pls tell us why the issue is not yet resolved and not reported back to the devs already?
I'm not trying to be negative or hostile but please understand how annoying is to restart the game 3-4 per day when this does happen randomly.
It just happened to me in Frontlines while I was playing with nothing else running in the background but Chrome broswer.

I'm familiar with troubleshooting steps and policies Einmimiria, but I also know they often get taken too far. Running an application doesn't give that application the right to be the only application running, that was never how OSes were designed or intended to be used.

A number of people have done excessive troubleshooting and there is clearly a (probably multiple) problems with the sound engine in FFXIV. Please have the devs at least made aware of this.
