I personally wouldn't even try to buy a house that JUST came available from personal relinquish or auto demolish, UNLESS you already have a temporary "filler plot" first. Then you can relocate into the freshly available plot. Try to find a crappy goblet plot for -2m facing a wall. Anything....just to get your foot in the door. If you are on an overpopulated server, that has zero plots anywhere, then I'm sorry to say, but you will be SOL unless you have a filler plot . It sucks, but that's the way overpopulated servers are.

The whole system, pretty much sucks even when you get a house.

I did the whole camping thing, spamming thing, no luck. Lost to a couple relocation from folks, and just bad timing.

Finally I would just go by and check all houses that were available . One day one was.

I started looking for a better location. There was a small in Shirogane that came up on the beach. Probably had been up about 4-8hrs, some one was at the board waiting.

So I relocated, and then of course got heaps of abuse for ninja-ing there plot. I tried to explain to them they could have been waiting days for this plot as it just came up, also apologized and told them it did suck, but that is the nature of the beast. They also accused me of exploiting and I explained, no , this is just how the system works....

If I could do ever again I suppose I would have waited maybe until they gave up. Though this was beach front in Shirogane (small) so I'm sure someone else would have come by to snatch it up....

So what should have been a happy time is a sucky time.

You shouldn't feel bad. Housing is more of a PvP mode than PvP itself. They had to wait, you had the option not to. No shame in that.

Whenever I was able to move out of the Goblet a couple weeks ago, I began looking around for a new place either in Mist or Lavender Beds. After a couple days of watching plots one in Lavender Beds finally dropped low enough that I could relocate if I could farm out just a little more gil.

I visited the plot to make sure it was to my liking, more than once. Never saw a soul. When it came time for another price drop later that evening I returned to check the timer and such, and saw someone standing at the board. Well, I started to panic a little then and began vendoring a ton of things. Weapons, armor, furnishings...but not stuff I knew I'd miss. Even ran a couple roulettes. I was honestly surprised that they hadn't scooped it up after about 20 min or so, but they were there nonetheless. They were clearly waiting on the timer to lower the price. So...after debating with myself for a couple minutes I decided to walk up and relocate. I did consider letting them have it for a couple minutes though, I really did. The moment I walked up to the plot they d/ced in a strange twist of fate.

Felt like a bit of a jerk afterwards, but that's just how things roll with housing. I got over it fast. Don't hesitate or you'll simply regret it. If someone else is too slow, then...their loss, not yours. If people want to be mad, let them. They weren't able to take advantage of the situation. You were. They've only got themselves to blame. Or their internet connection.

Hey! Ty for the guide. This stuff is hard to find. I have a couple questions.

    1. When you purchased your house were you spamming against another player? I've lost 3 spam offs so far after 10+ hours. It felt like their cadence was muuuuch slower as well. So I was wondering if there is some refresh that needs to take place.

    2. Do all properties start with the same devaluation timer? If so what is it/what can it be? It seems like the ones I've been seeing might start at 15 or 16 hours for the first devalue. I'm trying to isolate this so I can consistently tell how long a property has been available.

The devaluation timer should be every 6 hours, then it refreshes after lowering the price slightly until it eventually hits the lowest point which is a little under 50% the original price.

The devaluation timer should always be the same, but not all plots start from the same price(and as such they end up at different minimal prices too when applicable). Theres a map floating around somewhere that has the plot "ratings" so you can see this difference.

Also, be mindful that the random timer against buying a property can be as short as 30m, so if you wait you may miss it.

Wow, I never realized that there's only one "First-class" Large plot in the game.

I wonder how much (if at all) the classification of plots effects player's reactions to them.

Below image shows devaluation timer over 14 hours left.
So the information in the Playguide is incorrect or at least incomplete.
