Cutscene skipping "peer pressure" What is it? Why does it exist? Why care?

May I ask why people do this to themselves or worry about what others think? Or the complaints about being kicked for watching CS? I mean I watched every little thing in full during my first times and no one said a word. (even the MSQ ones)

However I will note I read semi fast (I know there are those that read faster, and those that read slower) but even still I go the speed right for me. (note the forced viewing is too slow for me and I do hate it for that) I was never kicked for "watching" At the same time however, I do talk, and some of the kicks I seen for supposed "cutscene watching" was more due to appearing afk for long period of time. So since I talk "hey I'm lost" "I do not know how get to you" "you are going too fast for me" They did not verbally chew me out or anything and someone guided me.

So point with me explaining this is to show I am really confused why some people seem to put more pressure on themselves that is needed. I mean when I am doing something 121933984743023th time and get that person lagging behind, no matter if I'm tank, healer, or dps, I am mindful they fell behind and wait. I do not care what people do as long as they do not appear afk or not putting effort in the run (low APM) Just as long as you appear to be trying, I do not care if you watch a cutscene. So why does this pressure exist that some speak about? why are you caring what others think of you? If someone has a problem, talk about it? seems like... people are too scared to talk in general.

As a new player, right from the start, you are generally being 'rushed' through the dungeons. No time to explore, no time to stop and read things or even go into side rooms for treasure chests, everyone else is off way ahead of you. And then.... you get to in-dungeon cutscenes.

I'll watch the cutscene because it's important and I'm here for the story, but I'll be thinking all the while that everyone else is waiting for me, and potentially getting annoyed because I've brought their run to a halt. The longer the scene goes on, the worse the feeling gets.

(Either that or they potentially just start without me, and I start seeing 'battle dialogue' and lockout warnings over the video. Used to be the problem in the ARR finale, mostly avoided in later dungeon designs but it still happened at the final boss of Rabanastre.)

I care about what others are thinking, and don't want to be inconveniencing them. But I'm torn between that and getting the story experience that I can only get 'for the first time' once.

I'm sure it depends on personality type and some people just don't care about that, but I do. And I can't make myself not worry, because I would feel bad about "not caring about others".

It is a common thing that happens in multiplayer gaming when you mix experience with inexperience no matter the genre. In this type of MMO it tends to be with cut scenes and dialog.

If it's new content, I'm watching the cutscenes. S'just 10-30 seconds of a dungeon/boss intro and that's it. I also don't mind waiting as it means my cooldowns will probably be up for my opener.

Really ought to just have you view a dungeon's intro CS when you unlock it prior to entering, and then have final boss animate into the arena vs. just fade to black to a cutscene every single time.

The cut scenes was bad design to me like kaisha said it should be before you enter a dungeon not while your in it holding people up becuase it's only their daily roulette or something...

I unfortunately can be a bit rushy only becuase I only get to play a certain amount of time a day to play because of work, school and what not, so I would rather plow through the boring stuff like the dungeons in roulettes so I can do other stuff like raid...

Because early on in my characters life I did Toto-rak & got left out of the boss fight stuck behind the wall because others wouldn't wait & this something that happened often in many runs people didn't wait because they were there for their dailies. I skipped & just watch them at unending journey, only time I watch cut scenes in content now is when it's day 1 of that content & everyone else is watching it as well.

A system error occurred during event movement.

    Nothing so harsh.
People know that you can re watch them in the Inn, I believe that is where the expectation to skip comes from.

Personally, I find it utterly retarded game design to plant long CS at the beginning or during the dungeon. You are designing it so that up to 3 / 7 other players have to wait.
Thankfully SE learned their lesson (the hard way) and now puts CS where they belong: at the END of the dungeon, triggered through the exit portal. There, everyone can watch them in peace.

I find it a bit silly though, if people expect others to skip a 10 second intro / transition CS.

Genereally: yes. If it's a DPS and we can clear trash w/o him while he is watching I would not wait though.

    Depends when you started playing.

If you played 2.0 on release, nobody rushed the cutscenes until about November (about a month in) because Castrum Meridianum and The Praetorium were the easiest way to farm tomes for Darklight gear to get the gear needed to do Amdapor Keep, because the Demon wall was something of a pain that SE eventually nerfed anyway. That's where skipping the first two groups of mobs in The Praetorium came from. That's where dragging all the mobs from the entrance of Castrum to the boss room entrance came from. Because skipping the cutscenes let you do that uninterrupted.

Everything other than MSQ, the dungeons have a "Viewing cutscene" wait, and that's not terribly bad, people rarely say anything about it unless it's taking a VERY long time. Where people get kinda annoying about cutscenes right now is EVERY TIME in the Praetorium. Its like "why can't I skip CS?", and to be honest I get why it was changed, but this was not the right permanent change. What does happen however is that because the cutscenes for the Praetorium can be 5 minutes long each, people walk away, get something to eat, use the bathroom, etc and thus get locked out of the boss room. With most of the regular content, that "boss room scene" is maybe just long enough to get locked out of the boss room if you don't have a SSD hard drive.

But because everyone tends to want to zerg the dungeon, they don't have patience for people to watch the cutscenes, but there is nothing you can do about it, really the only way you get to watch the cutscenes is by being the tank.

Because if you arent a tank, your queue is like 5 minutes as a healer, and at least 20+ minutes as a DPS, and by nature of you being a leveling player your gear, damage, and healing is subpar and will be unable to manage the 'normal' pulls.

So on top of most leveling dungeons being 20+ minutes long since so many are simply braindead and dont remember speedpulls we've been doing for years (duh how do I do darkhold 1st room again?), or their non-SB kits have been gutted entirely (basically every ARR job) that it's just impossible to do the classic pulls, on top of the 5-20 minute queues, you're now asking for us to wait anywhere from 2-5 minutes extra.

And then if you want to do side paths? That's another 5 minutes.

Wipes? Well god help us because depending on the dungeon and how the wipe took place that could either be maybe 10 seconds or another 5-10 minutes like in Totorak, LC, or AK.

So as a tank or a healer it's usually just an extra 5, maybe a bit more because of lower dps. As a DPS you're looking at nearly double the time, though. If the healer or tank just doesnt know what they're doing you could have multiple wipes, or you could try and hit every single sideroom. Ever do Darkholds side rooms? Yeah, don't, because you turn a 12 minute dungeon into a 50 minute one.

So if it already takes me 40 minutes as a DPS, and DPS players *are* the majority, why are you surprised that I'm upset you're literally wasting my time? You're cutting in half the number of dungeons I can run. Every minute you're wasting dead, getting lost, or viewing a generic cutscene that's the same in 90% of dungeons, is another minute I'm not spending waiting in a queue. It's not your fault. It's the game's fault. But it doesn't change that it's still our time being wasted.

Shiva cutscene is more than 5 minutes. For most groups the cutscene is literally longer than the fight itself. Same thing with Westwind.
