Cutscene skipping "peer pressure" What is it? Why does it exist? Why care?

The only time I've felt pressure to skip CS is in the Main scenario dungeons. By the time I got to the end of 2.0 it was a couple patches in, and my friend told me to watch them later. I didn't mind doing that.

Usually I'm doing content on release so I don't really feel bad about watching them, most people are watching them.

If I'm going through the story again on an alt I'll watch the CSs too and I've never had anyone bother me about it. As a matter of fact even when I tell them I'm an alt they seem to not mind. Like just today I did Ala Mhigo and watched the CS opening CS and the one before Zenos, and someone said "You sure seem to know what you're doing first timer." So I told them I was an alt. They told me they'd guessed as much. I did skip the last CS though because I wanted to be sure to comm one of my partners. A lot of people leave before I can and I don't like to miss commending someone that I feel deserves it, so even though I wanted to watch the CS again, I felt that rolling on the loot and commending someone was more important.

I've never seen someone kicked for watching them or chewed out for watching something.

As someone who likes to skip queue time and does roulettes as a tank, I don't mind if people watch cutscenes. Actually, when I accidentally lock a healer out of a boss room because I wasn't paying attention to them being in a cut scene, I'll apologise for causing the wipe by pulling before everyone was ready.

There's no way I could ever blame someone else for not skipping cut scenes and sticking with the group's pace in those scenarios. 100% my fault and if I ever saw it happen from a DPS point of view, I'm definitely more likely to roll my eyes at the tank who pulled ahead rather than the healer who is watching a cut scene.

I've ran old fc members with the specific intent to let them watch the cutscenes, we just tell people up front, mostly everyone is ok with it, others that don't like it can either deal or leave. These days tho I don't grasp why people want to run their first time via the DF, instead just run a PF with the intention of watching the cutscenes. 50s MSQ dungeons like Prae can be done unsync'd without troubling anyone. I've had people help me with relic dungeons in the past even tho they weren't doing relic in the PF, so it's entirely possible. It's a win-win situation..

It happens because DF is a tool for everyone and not something dedicated to your speed-runs.

So why does this pressure exist that some speak about?

Because not everyone is like you and doesn't necessarily care. Some people are genuine jerks in the game that will fuss over the smallest things, and that can get to some people. Ive been in runs where people try kicking newbies for zero reason other than the dungeon is too slow. I vote against it but still. The fact remains some people are just jerks and like making people feel bad. And some make it really hard to ignore them....
