Just gunna add my thoughts to this... it needs to happen. I am in desperate need of a plain white tank top for my Hyur Midlander who is trying his hardest to represent Axel Stone from Streets of Rage!!!!! Even a sleeveless shirt will do.

Well like I said, I've been against this from the beginning... I posted several times somewhere in the jumble. Just caught up with the thread recently and saw the last GM post which seemed to indicate that they're favoring the opinions of ppl that want it to happen. Which is why I'm now just thinking about implementation.I like having something that only my race can use since everything else looks the same on everyone. I also really have no interest in seeing lala underboob in the highlander top....
How about instead of spending time on this you take some time to make more than one partition with a door for housing? or maybe a vertical half wall partition.. things that might actually be useful for us.
Still against this, and promote the idea for more race locked gear sets in the future. I would hope for more GC locked role gear as well. Why after all this time we still have only level 50 gear to represent our chosen GC makes very little sense. To say nothing of weapons not being made for newer jobs introduced to the game.
I still say more race gear should be made and what little we have now should be kept as is. Wishes falling on deaf ears to be sure, but hoping against hope all the same.
On a side note: Will this stop with just hempen gear, or will it take from the race's starting gear as well? Will those that demand this be satisfied with just the undergarments?
My Elf lady needs them booty shorts. Please and thank you.![]()
I don't get why people would be against this. Since when has has more customization options ever been a bad thing? Maybe I'm wrong but I just take "I'm against this" as "I need to feel special for playing this race cause that's the only reason why i do."
My take is: It's pretty annoying to like the hempen clothing of one race but not like playing that race. It's especially annoying if you like making casual looking outfits because some races can do it way easier with their hempen parts. Fem Miqos for example have great hempen tops for casual outfits but I don't like playing them, fem Miqos race gear also has one of the best skirts in the game and I feel like it should be available to all the races.
The thing about racial gear and the hempen styles is that there doesn't seem to be any lore behind it, at least as far as I've played (starting HW now). Nobody besides players (adventurers) seem to wear the starting gear. I haven't seen a Miqo'te village where females tend to wear little red skirts. Where do these clothes come from if there is no cultural context? I’ve seen the Miqo'te hempen shorts on one character and of course Yda wears the Midlander shorts. If these are traditional garb of specific people groups there might be a valid point for restricting them. If so then maybe there should be some sort of reputation grind to become friendly with each group's tribal leaders, etc. However, there doesn't seem to be cultural centers for specific races. Most areas of Eorzea seem to be culturally mixed.
There are references to where these races may have come from in ancient times but these areas have either become part of the current city-states or are extremely distant. They are not likely to be where our adventurers came from.
One thing I would like to add to this point is the factor of the Au'ra starting gear. When you read the text about the Raen and Xaela in character creation it somewhat explains the culture of both versions of the race; Raen are an isolated nobility type of culture, while Xaela are warring nomads. But when you look at the starting gear it only looks like it fits for the Xaela. If there really was a cultural aspect to the starting gear, wouldn't the Raen and Xaela have different starting clothes?
Granted, I'd personally be satisfied with just the hempen gear being unlocked. But that's because of the fact that it's more than a little annoying to see it on someone of a different race than you, like it, and craft it yourself just to realize it's nothing like what you saw on the other race. The starting gear has the race name in it. The hempen gear does not. And while I may be envious of say, the Elezen starting gear when I'm playing an Au'ra, I can get past it as that's the gear you start with when you pick that race. We're not in 1.0 anymore, races no longer have unique underwear when you take off your gear and all that keeping it locked does is limit other players from properly expressing themselves through their character.
The only race/gender combos where the hempens are worn and match the racial lore are highlander males & (xaela) au ra males. In that same vein, the only starter set that matches the racial lore are xaela au ra. Everyone else just gets cute generic looking fantasy-esque casual clothes. The thing about racial gear and the hempen styles is that there doesn't seem to be any lore behind it, at least as far as I've played (starting HW now). I haven't seen a Miqo'te village where females tend to wear little red skirts. Where do these clothes come from if there is no cultural context?
If they were more unique to the different cultures I'd see why people would want them to be exclusive..but as it stands, croptops, nighties, and sleeves are hardly representative of their respective races so Im in the camp that says unlock em.
I don't think I've seen lore for the hempen gear /1.0 RSE aside from a mention somewhere that Highlanders sew talismans into their undergarments, but IIRC the lorebook does have sections on cultural dress for each race which describes the 2.0 RSE. E.g. Lalafell favor loose-fitting clothes and scarves, whereas hyur favoring leather because their native Ilsabard is cooler in climate or something.
Here's a web page I found with the lalafell thing.
Isn't the Midlander hempen set (as worn by Buscarron) already a vest? Or does it dye badly?
I just looking forward to when it happens as many of us players want this and keep asking for it. This is a 70+ page thread about this topic alone so that shows that a lot of people want this. So I hope we can see something soon from the devs. :3
