I summon thee, rise from the crypt! Please note the date of this thread, this has been an issue long enough.
(edit: Make sure to go to the linked thread and 'like' if you want this brought up. It's not as important as the botting and such, but maybe it'll at least bring it to someone's attention)

Agreed. I don't come here often to post anymore because I lost love for this game right around the time YoshiP was revealed to be a liar (Housing), but with Eureka and a semi-return to some content I enjoyed in the past I want to contribute to the discussion again.
These limitations are nonsense and I don't understand why SE continues to constrain not only themselves but their players. We're loooooong past the days of ignorance where we would actually believe things couldn't work because of 'ps2 limitations'. It's over. It's time for transparency and honestly and actually accepting feedback. That starts with not trying to silence us with arbitrary limitations.
Not sure I agree about the post limit, but the 1k character limit is absurd and everyone bypasses it anyway without the forums combusting in the process.
I am fine with a post limit (maybe make it a bit higher) because that can be used to cool down some discussions.
But a 10000000% yes to the character limit. I mean its not like we are allowed to post half a book as a post..its such a small limit that you are barely able to say anything, especially if you also quote someone. How much sense does a discussion forum make when you cant really discuss normally?
(Wow that was quite an old thread ö_ö sad that we still have the limit even years later)

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Nah, I'd say the post limit needs to go, too. While I can agree on the tempering heated discussion maybe, I always feel it holding back a lot of helpful posting on patch days when too much starts exploding over new content.
It certainly doesn't need to be a 24 hour limit, at least. If you still gotta have a limit, do 10 posts an hour or something.
UP!
It's super anoying. We already have to PAY to use forums, why do we need 1000 characters limit even? Remove it pleaseee!!
The post limit is fine, given how some people can just argue forever about stuff. It gives room for other people to talk.
The post limit is beyond absurd at this point. It needs to go.

They are afraid of debates, hence the limit. That's what I get from this. But still it's kinda pointless cause it can be bypassed by editing. Just remove it already.
I'd say most of the posts can be conveyed in concise manners. If posts get too long, it may as well be just as convoluted as the average Mr. Happy video guide.
