Because people get mad™ that people figured out the easiest way to level was just to stand near the high levels and afk.
Don't blame the player, blame the developer for making it absolute balls to level any other way.

Oh they didn't do that when they were leveing right? And everyone afk's.... NO ONE is killing MONSTERS for 3 hours straight. In addition it's hard to paricipate sometimes as a caster when the monster is dead before your cast ends. I have 3 toons at 20 and I can say it's really not much of an issue from what I can see other than the occasional comment about afk'ers.
It's not a problem. I never said it was. But some people do get super mad about people afking even though they couldn't do anything if they wanted to. I tend to play healer/caster as well and I don't do jack to anything before it's dead, so I don't even try besides the occasional Fleche and picking up people who died.Oh they didn't do that when they were leveing right? I am all for afking. You go little afk buddies.
I'm more upset with instances becoming empty once Paz dies. The meta being the only thing to level with turns to nothing when theres suddenly only low level leeches and nobody above 15 to kill lv 20+s.
Been years since using this forum. @_@
Personally I think that as long as they don't hinder us by bringing in extra mobs while we're busy fighting the Notorious Monsters, it's not that much of a problem aside from the "I worked my sweat where you reaped" sentiment that some people inevitably feels.
That, too, the high-level players killed the underleveled mobs so quickly that I could barely cast a spell in time as a black mage. They're gonna die within 3 seconds anyway, and with others pulling the additional mobs in my stead, there's no need for me to dirty my hands like that when I could just save my spells for the big ones.
If my high hit is 5000 times what a low level can do, I do not expect them to help with killing placeholders - especially in a sea of glowers and swipes. Sometimes even a cure or a raise can put a low level at risk - just being on the enmity list of a Zu can result in that person getting targeted for a divebomb.
The only thing that bothers me a little is seeing people on mounts at every spawn attempt. I choose to work very hard killing placeholders, because that's what gets my blood pumping, and makes Eureka a fun instance to be in.
I think what's worse is that this style of play stems very naturally.
One can easily see that NMs reward a lot of XP of course. But beyond that it's basically the only way a player who has already maxed their level and obtained their reward to help their lower elemental level friends. The game actively discourages and penalizes a higher level player helping with chain camps via odd xp sharing and chain rules. So the best way they can help is by taxiing their friends around and actually contributing to a NM kill with their lower level friends in the party.
I tried to be "more efficient" during my initial visits this week. I'm just trying to get Amenos crystals at this point. Instead of following the train I went and solo popped some of the lower level NMs near where the train already was.
This always resulted in me missing the NM that the train was at, while the train had plenty of time to get to the NM I solo popped. Even when I popped Bombadeel when the train was at Callisto, I didn't have enough time to get around the rocks to the FATE before it died.
So yah, I can understand why ppl don't want to work on popping other things and get too far away from the train now.
This, hopefully a community manager can send the devs a report on how bad of a design it was to not give us variety in leveling. What happened to ideas like:
-Hunt bills (kill 50-60 enemies and get as much exp as an NM)
-Bounty hunting (search for a special creature which "was last spotted at x location)
-Enemy waves events where instead of NMs you get a wave of like 100 enemies and you get as much exp as an NM
Just different things. I like Eureka currently and I want them to keep the NM hunt but for the next one we need new ones to level
This could work if Eureka had "B rank" monsters. One monster on the map. Spots in some location, instantly respawns somewhere else once killed. And there could be like 10 different "B Ranks". These monsters giving zero rewards outside of the bill so people don't snipe or farm them. This, hopefully a community manager can send the devs a report on how bad of a design it was to not give us variety in leveling.
